About The Position

The trail crew position is a summer seasonal position. Trail crew members will conduct a wide variety of mountain operation tasks. This position will require working outside in a variety of weather conditions and a high level of fitness is necessary. This is an hourly position regularly scheduled at 40 hours a week.

Requirements

  • Safety equipment is required (metal or reinforced toe footwear)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
  • A willingness to safely do whatever task is needed to get the job done.
  • Solid decision-making skills.
  • The ability to hike in steep terrain with packs weighing up to 50 pounds and lift/carry equipment and materials weighing 70 pounds or more.
  • Walking through and working in uneven and rugged terrain and tolerate inclement weather.
  • Comfortable operating a variety of hand and power tools up to 10 hours a day.
  • Safely operate company vehicles including trucks, side-by-sides and snowmobiles
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be willing to follow WPR policies and procedures.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Use two-way radios and emergency contact options.
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Visually inspect all areas for safety and risk.
  • Operate equipment for several hours at a time in challenging weather conditions.
  • Retrieve, read, and interpret information from technical sources.
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, lift, grasp, twist, turn, bend, kneel, and balance for extended amounts of time.
  • Lift up to 50lbs frequently, 25lbs occasionally, 10lbs constantly.
  • Maintains neat and professional experience and always observes personal cleanliness rules.
  • Self-motivated.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of fire mitigation and containment preferred.
  • Working knowledge of landscaping and power tools.
  • Prior experience on ski patrol, firefighting, trail building, or mountain operations required.
  • EMT training or some medical training required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a wide variety of mountain operations/patrol tasks.
  • Uses chainsaws, brush cutters and hand saws to thin forest and make trails.
  • Digs holes and installs signposts and fixed area boundary posts.
  • Builds and paints signs, flag rope and other tasks as necessary to prepare for winter operations.
  • Installs wind fencing and other on-mountain projects.
  • Assists with lift and Avalauncher installation as needed.
  • Installs bomb trams and other snow safety infrastructure.
  • Maintains and sharpens equipment as necessary.
  • Provides medical care to mountain employees and construction workers.
  • Trains and operates as on-call wildland firefighters.
