About The Position

Supervise, train, and evaluate engineering personnel performing studies, design, and specification duties relating to protection of new and existing distribution, customer, and bulk substations; and distribution and sub-transmission lines involving voltages from 4.16 kV to 69 kV, within the Ameren Illinois service territories. Perform similar duties for transmission and generation protection issues as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Option desired) from an accredited college or university.
  • Five or more years of experience related to power system protection design or maintenance.
  • Prefer person with power system protection experience who has knowledge of symmetrical components, use of computers, and protection devices.
  • Good leadership, management, analytical, communication, flexibility, and human relations skills required.
  • Must be willing to travel.
  • Normal work location is Decatur, but a regular presence at other engineering work locations is required.
  • After preliminary review, selected applicants must take the First Line Supervisor Test and obtain a recommended status in order to be eligible for additional selection procedures (e.g., interview) designated for this position.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer License preferred.
  • Familiarity with Ameren subtransmission and distribution system, and schematic control diagrams is desirable.
  • Being open to relocation would be a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Set design criteria; and work group's conformance to codes, regulations, applicable engineering practices, and company procedures and policies.
  • Plan, schedule, prioritize, and coordinate activities to assure that assignments are completed relative to time schedules and costs.
  • Interface with vendors, contractors, consultants, suppliers, interconnected utilities, governmental and regulatory agencies, as well as other groups within the company.
  • Keep abreast of state-of-the-art developments and improvements, and contribute to the personal and professional development needs of the engineers in the group.
