About The Position

As a Supervising Inspector, you will lead construction inspection activities for transportation and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for ensuring full compliance with project plans, specifications, and contract documents while managing inspection staff and coordinating field operations with contractors and agency personnel. You will serve as the primary field leader, providing technical guidance, resource planning, scheduling, and quality assurance for all inspection activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • 6+ years of construction inspection experience, including supervisory or lead‑worker responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of transportation and infrastructure construction methods, materials, and industry practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency in inspection documentation, field measurement calculations, and quantity verification.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Must obtain required certifications and pass qualification tests within designated time frames, as dictated by project or agency requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, including inclement weather, heat, humidity, noise, hazardous environments, atmospheric conditions, and near bodies of water.
  • Physical ability to perform inspection duties, including frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, grasping, balancing, and coordinating movement.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 35 lbs, and occasionally sit or operate a company vehicle as needed.

  • Associate or bachelors degree in civil engineering or a related field preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, mentor, and support construction inspection staff, ensuring adherence to project standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Allocate staff resources and delegate responsibilities based on current and anticipated project needs.
  • Organize and lead routine field meetings to communicate updates, resolve issues, and maintain project alignment.
  • Monitor contractor on‑site activities and verify compliance with plans, specifications, schedules, and contract requirements.
  • Apply advanced engineering inspection practices, including complex measurements, calculations, and quantity verification.
  • Review and approve inspectors’ daily reports, field documentation, material testing results, and as‑constructed sketches to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between field inspection teams, contractor staff, and agency representatives.
  • Coordinate inspection phases and field operations with contractor superintendents and agency personnel to maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Ensure accurate documentation for pay items, progress estimates, and assist in assembling final estimate and project closeout packages.
