About The Position

The Supervisor, Laboratory is responsible for overseeing the technical administration and operation of assigned laboratory areas (chemistry/special chemistry, urinalysis/serology, microbiology, blood bank, or hematology/coagulation). The Supervisor performs and oversees clinical diagnostic/serological testing to aid the physicians and clinical care team in the diagnosis/treatment of the patient.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical laboratory Science from a NAACLS accredited institution; or Bachelor's degree in a related field of science may be accepted with required certification.
• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology - MT (ASCP), or equivalent certification as an MT/MLS.
• Three years of clinical experience as an MT or MLS with experience leading a team or project.

Responsibilities

• Provides operational oversight and direction for the assigned areas of responsibility
• Coordinates department activities to ensure operation within budgeted parameters
• Monitors and adjusts staffing and workload as appropriate
• Assists with interviews, hires and employment actions
• Coaches team members in accountability and identifies opportunities for improvement
• Oversees department programs and initiatives to assure compliance, optimization and continuous improvement
• Supervises and performs diagnostic tests for interpretation and/or therapeutic interventions
• Oversees and participates in clinical laboratory procedures to obtain data for diagnosis and treatment of disease or disease processes by or at the request of a licenses practitioner
• Supervises all sections of the laboratory, the performance of tests, and instrument main
• Monitors test results in order to ensure test validity
• Calls all critical results to the appropriate health care provider in a timely manner
• Ensures accurate communication of the patient and family health care needs to the appropriate health care provider
• Provides operational oversight and direction for the assigned areas of responsibility
