Job Summary Responsible for the overall supervision, planning, direction and execution of work for non-exempt and/or exempt employees in a medium or large sized operational unit. The functional activities are complex and have a moderate impact on overall operations. This level supervises employees in complex clerical/administrative/trade, or complex technical functions that provide services to persons inside or outside the organization. Work performed is non-routine and complex semi-skilled, skilled, or technical in nature. Job Description Overview The Park Maintenance Supervisor oversees, leads, and supervises the crews and crew leaders performing cleaning, maintenance, care, and repair of parks, playgrounds, facilities, public spaces, and landscaping for the Parks and Recreation Department.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, methods, and practices used in various construction repairs.
  • Maintaining and operating hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures
  • Supervising, leading, directing, evaluating, and training crews, staff, and subordinate personnel.
  • Serving on committees and recommending changes to improve quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Knowledge of administrative functions for a department,
  • Establishing and maintaining strong relationships.
  • 4 Years in Operating mowers and other lawn equipment maintaining public facilities, lakes, zoo, aquarium, and park grounds; and, collecting garbage/brush, and trimming landscape.
  • Texas Driver's License
  • High School Diploma, GED

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, administers, and manages the park maintenance daily tasks to ensure they are completed in a timely manner; responds to internal and external customer emails and phone calls, enters routine and on-demand work orders for processing, responds to 311 service requests, reviews and approves staff daily time sheets, and submits daily athletic field and park closures.
  • Conducts park quality inspections, supervises ongoing projects, attends park and trail site visits for contract relations and special events, and occasionally operate heavy and small equipment.
  • Provides on the job training and leadership to ensure quality of maintenance work; assists with time cards and general time keeping and delegates assignments as needed; attends and participates in various professional development opportunities and encourages training and other development for staff.
  • Performs a wide range of clerical and administrative functions for the crews performing maintenance and related work for the department; documents and tracks inspection work, general projects, accident or injury reports, and inventory management reports; assists with bidding and cost estimating, schedule development, and the documentation required following environmental spills and other emergencies.
  • Processes and approves all employee and personnel related requests; manages timecards, delegates work assignments, and assists in the resolution of personnel issues or concerns; addresses performance deficiencies and recommends disciplinary actions; evaluates general performance and recommends awards, promotions, or other accolades.
  • Serves on various committees committed to bettering the Parks and Recreation parks and facilities; provides input, insight, and recommendations for the park maintenance work.
  • Provides quality customer service and competent public interaction; handles hazardous or dangerous situations with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Performs any and all other work as required or assigned.
