Limited opportunities may be available for remote work. 60% (0.6 FTE) | Direct Patient Care Staffing (2 x 12 Hour Night Shifts) 40% (0.4 FTE) | Indirect Patient Care/Leadership Support Job Summary Promotes the patient care philosophy and objectives of the professional practice governance members by subscribing to and supporting CW standards of care through the coordination of patient care activities. Acts as an active member of the leadership team to support the care management model, CW scope and standards of pediatric clinical nursing practice, legal regulations, CW Code of Ethics and hospital policies. Works toward achieving ongoing development of leadership skills and participates in professional activities to stay current in relevant area of clinical practice. Facilitates the development and engagement of professional and technical personnel (registered nurses, respiratory therapists, graduate nurses, nurse interns, technicians, health unit secretaries, care partners) providing patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field Required and Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Respiratory Preferred
  • 2+ years technical/clinical experience necessary in order to gain knowledge of professional nursing practice and procedures, and proficiency in the care of complex pediatric patients, as well as preferred experience in supervision in order to oversee unit staffing and activities of subordinate staff. Required
  • Analytical skills that is necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care.
  • Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.
  • Knowledge of medical theory and practice.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
  • License RN-Registered Nurse (30) - State of Wisconsin required
  • PALS-Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council required
  • Provides care appropriate to patient population and as described in applicable policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for shift supervision of professional and non-professional personnel who provide direct patient care.
  • Acts as an active member of the management team to support care management model, standards of nursing practice, legal regulations, and hospital policies.
  • Acts as clinical resource to unit staff members and nurses on other units.
  • Communicates significant clinical issues to nursing manager.
  • Supervises patient care activities on assigned shift and assigns the care of patients to staff nurses, care partners, respiratory therapists.
  • Assists in making patient placement decisions on unit and works with other charge nurses, physicians Patient Care Manager, Patient Care Manager on-call and the Admitting Department to problem solve regarding patient placement issues.
  • Provides a complete report of patient status and unit activities to the on-coming charge nurse
  • Participates in unit, hospital, medical or nursing committees.
  • Supports staff educational activities on the unit.
  • Works with educational services and manager regarding staff development needs on the unit.
  • Assists and supports staff members in their pursuit of professional goals.
  • Acts as a professional role model and staff advocate.
  • Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Children’s Organizational Code of Ethics and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Children's business.
  • Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale.
  • Recommends hiring, terminations, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.

  • Performs people management responsibilities for employees which may include but are not limited to: employee engagement, recruitment, performance management and development
  • Acts as the clinical resource-on-call for the Fox Valley campus on a rotating basis.
