About The Position

The ultrasound supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of all the ultrasound departments within the Methodist Hospitals system to ensure high-quality diagnostic imaging services. This role combines advanced clinical knowledge with leadership responsibilities, including supervising staff, managing workflow, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and coordinating with physicians and other departments.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of obstetric, gynecologic, small parts, vascular, neurological and breast sonography, as well as ultrasound equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of normal vs abnormal pathology.
  • Proficient in EMR and PACS systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving abilities.
  • Possess strong organizational, leadership and communication (both verbally and written) skills.
  • Must have integrity, compassion, confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Self-motivation incorporated into a strong spirit of teamwork is required.
  • Education
  • Associates Degree in Radiologic Sciences (Ultrasound) is Required
  • We will consider direct experience in lieu of education for certified candidates.
  • Experience
  • 5 years experiece in Ultrasound is Required
  • Experience Requirements :
  • Certification in two specialties is required.
  • The sonographer must be certified in one of the following:
  • ARDMS - RVT
  • ARRT – RT (VS)
  • The second certification must be one of the following:
  • ARDMS – RDMS (AB)
  • ARDMS – RDMS (OB/GYN)
  • ARDMS – RDMS (PS)
  • ARDMS – RDMS (BR) if earned prior to 2011
  • ARRT – RT (S)
  • ARRT – RT (BS) if earned prior to 2011
  • Certifications and Licensures
  • Certified Sonographer in two specialties as noted under experience requirements
  • Certified Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation

  • Bachelors Degree in Radiologic Sciences (Ultrasound) is Preferred

Responsibilities

  • Supervise sonographers, externs, and students to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Prepare and coordinate staff schedules to provide adequate coverage.
  • Monitor staffing to stay within the productivity and overtime expectations.
  • Manage daily operations and flex staff to other locations as needed.
  • Obtain coverage when call offs.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and training to staff and students to ensure clinical excellence.
  • Lead the education process and startup of new ultrasound procedures.
  • Assist manager with necessary competencies and performance evaluations, as well as assist in the hiring and disciplinary processes for the department.
  • Orientate new staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between technicians, physicians, and department leadership.
  • Responsible for working departmental work queues and reviewing charges within the hospital’s electronic health record system.
  • As well as reviewing exams to ensure timely readings by the radiologists. Alert them of delayed reads.
  • Supervisor will be expected to assist with the creation of new charges and the maintenance of existing charges.
  • Direct oversight of the software programs, such as Sonultra or Viewpoint, used within the department. Provide education to staff and physicians, as needed.
  • Work with RIS PACS and the software companies to troubleshoot issues that may arise or help to coordinate needed updates.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure functionality, coordinate repairs and calibrations.
  • Ensures compliance with hospital policies and procedures. Assists manager with the developing and reviewing of policies and procedures.
  • Participate and lead the team in quality improvement initiatives and accreditation processes.
  • Responsible for monitoring the quality performance of staff and providing additional education, when needed.
  • Ensure all ultrasound procedures are performed in accordance with hospital policies, physician’s orders, and regulatory guidelines, such as ACR and Joint Commission.
  • Maintain accurate logs and departmental records.
  • Manage inventory and order necessary supplies.
  • Timekeeper for staff time cards.
  • Participate in continuing education programs and department meetings, as well as assist the manager in meeting content.
  • Ensure patient safety, privacy, and comfort throughout the imaging process. Address patient concerns and collaborate with physicians to optimize outcomes.
  • Perform high quality ultrasounds when needed.
