About The Position

The Purchasing Superintendent will oversee and direct the activities of the Purchasing department . This position is important to the success of the company to ensure that vendor and client relationships are maintained and cultivated; proper timelines are maintained; and the quality/price/availability of products and services are continually evaluated. This position will also work closely with the Sourcing Superintendent to negotiate and establish agreements and will coordinate with the Director of Contracts and Procurement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of related experience, preferably with in mining industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven negotiation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills with the ability to effectively train others.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.
  • Understanding of business and management principles.
  • Thorough understanding of materials and supplies used in the company.
  • Advanced knowledge of the following software: Microsoft Excel Microsoft Word Microsoft PowerPoint Microsoft Outlook Adobe Acrobat JD Edwards (JDE)
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer .
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access all areas of the facility to determine needs.
  • May require travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Purchasing Certification (CPP) or working towards is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead supervision including hiring and managing personnel with corporate purchasing department.
  • Oversee daily workflow and schedules of the department to support Project Sites.
  • Oversee training for new and existing employees within the purchasing department.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely, and constructive.
  • Coordinates with the HR department to handle discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policies.
  • Lead and implement purchasing processes and policies and proactive management.
  • Monitor and ensure purchase to Pay Process is being followed by all company personnel.
  • Lead the negotiation of acquisitions with vendors and service providers.
  • Placement of Purchase Orders, authorizing payments.
  • Monitor and maintain procurement activities including month-end tasks and deadlines.
  • Lead the qualification of new vendors.
  • Monitor and track vendor performance.
  • Lead the distribution and logistics including cross-border and customs transactions between Canada, Mexico, and the USA.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department and Accounts Payable to resolve discrepancies and for timely receipt and payments to vendors.
  • Collaborates with other departments and leadership to identify and develop needs and requirements for equipment, materials, products, services, and acceptable substitutions.
  • Assesses current material availability; reasonably predicts future availability based on the market, delivery systems, and other variables.
  • Provide timely customer service on project sites acquisition needs.
  • Prepares or delegates the process of requisition approvals for materials, supplies, services, and equipment.
  • Resolves grievances with vendors, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintains and/or implement purchasing and recordkeeping systems.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
  • Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and reports same to the Health and Safety Department.
  • Be a champion for safety, advocating safe behavior while incorporating safety into the purchasing process.
