About The Position

The Supply Chain Manager is a mid-level leadership position responsible for strategic oversight and hands-on management of all supply chain operations, including inventory planning and projections, procurement through blanket purchase orders, and comprehensive logistics coordination with third-party logistics (3PL) partners. This role requires a data-driven leader who leverages advanced ERP systems, Excel analytics, and emerging AI tools to optimize inventory performance, reduce costs, and drive operational excellence. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical capabilities with practical supply chain experience and a commitment to continuous improvement through technology adoption. This is a full-time position, on-site position based at our headquarters in Grand Rapids, MI.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressive supply chain experience in distribution, inventory management, or logistics operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing supplier relationships and negotiating purchase agreements.
  • Proven track record working with third-party logistics (3PL) providers and managing outsourced warehouse operations.
  • Expert-level proficiency with ERP systems (experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Business Central / Navision a plus).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills include pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, complex formulas, macros, and Power Query.
  • Excellent supervisory, leadership, and motivational skills with ability to influence and drive results through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to present complex information clearly to stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Inventory Management & Demand Forecasting: Develop and maintain accurate inventory projections using historical sales data, market trends, and advanced forecasting methodologies to optimize stock levels across all product lines.
  • Establish and monitor key inventory metrics including turnover rates, months on hand, stock-out rates, and seasonal projections to drive inventory efficiency.
  • Leverage AI-powered forecasting tools and machine learning algorithms to improve demand prediction accuracy and reduce excess inventory.
  • Implement inventory optimization strategies that balance service levels with working capital requirements, minimizing stockouts while reducing obsolete inventory.
  • Conduct regular inventory analysis to identify slow-moving SKUs, recommend disposition strategies, and maintain optimal product mix.
  • Strategic Procurement & Vendor Management: Manage blanket purchase order agreements with key suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules to ensure supply continuity.
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier relationships, conduct performance reviews, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support vendor negotiations for new products and product line expansions, ensuring competitive pricing and optimal payment terms with Product Development team.
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics including on-time delivery, quality, and responsiveness, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Establish backup supplier relationships to mitigate supply chain risk and ensure business continuity.
  • 3PL Partnership & Logistics Optimization: Serve as primary point of contact for third-party logistics (3PL) partners.
  • Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics operations, optimizing freight costs while maintaining service level requirements.
  • Monitor 3PL performance through KPIs including order accuracy, on-time shipments, inventory accuracy, and cost per unit, driving accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Manage freight carrier relationships, negotiate rates, and optimize transportation modes to balance cost and service requirements.
  • Lead quarterly business reviews with 3PL partners to review performance, address issues, and identify opportunities for cost reduction and service enhancement.
  • ERP Systems & Technology Leadership: Demonstrate expert-level proficiency in ERP systems, serving as the supply chain functional lead for system optimization, configuration, and process improvements.
  • Utilize advanced Excel capabilities such as macros, Power Query, and complex formulas to perform sophisticated supply chain analysis and build decision-support tools.
  • (as applicable) Identify and implement AI-powered tools for demand forecasting, inventory optimization, and supply chain automation to drive competitive advantage.
  • Develop and maintain automated reporting dashboards that provide real-time visibility into supply chain performance and support data-driven decision making.
  • Champion digital transformation initiatives within the supply chain function, evaluating and recommending new technologies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
  • Process Improvement & Strategic Planning: Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer service levels.
  • Develop and implement supply chain best practices, standard operating procedures, and performance metrics aligned with business objectives.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis for supply chain investments and process changes, presenting recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Support new product launches by coordinating initial procurement, inventory planning, and logistics setup to ensure successful market introduction.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with sales, marketing, finance, and customer service to align supply chain operations with overall business strategy.
