About The Position

The Second-in-Command Mentor (SCM) Program at CAE is designed to train and qualify members to provide right‑seat support for clients participating in FAA‑approved 14 CFR 142 curriculum courses. This on‑call position, based in Dallas, TX , is ideal for pilots who wish to remain active in aviation without the extensive travel demands typical of line flying. SCMs support a diverse range of trainees—including FAA Part 135 and 91 operators, EASA trainees, and clients from various NAAs. While a type rating is not required, SCMs must maintain proficiency as qualified crew members. Responsibilities may also include simulator evaluation support for CAE or external authorities. CAE provides a comprehensive training program to elevate instructional effectiveness and CRM skills. Successful candidates demonstrate strong professionalism, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering a high‑quality training experience. The program is well suited for both aspiring aviation students who meet minimum criteria and experienced pilots seeking stability while staying connected to cockpit operations.
