Job Description: The Surgery Scheduler will be responsible for scheduling and preparing documentation for all surgeries to be performed by our practice's physicians. This position requires the candidate to contact patients to review medical history, obtain a current medication list and identify any possible preoperative issues. The Scheduler will schedule patients with the appropriate physician based on procedure, priority and availability. Once surgery is scheduled, the Surgery Scheduler will send out informational packets and preoperative instructions to all patients and answer any questions the patient may have regarding their procedure. This position will also support the check-in/check-out position on a rotational basis.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED/ equivalent
  • Two (2) years of medical office experience (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Works reception desk, check-in/check-out position, and surgery scheduling on a rotation basis
  • Enters and updates patient demographic and insurance information in computer
  • Schedules, reschedules and verifies patient appointments identifying acute disorders as high priority and prioritizes less acute disorders
  • Provides full-cycle surgery scheduling and patient surgery consenting, to include but not limited to: pre and post op testing, communicating financial requirements, patient consent, hospital reservations, final surgery clearance, and physician scheduling
  • Obtains patient referrals and verifies insurance eligibility
  • Obtains authorizations for surgery and radiology testing ordered by the physician for surgery
  • Answers multiline telephone, triage patient calls, handle complaints, retrieve and process voice messages
  • Organizes and maintains patient files in the electronic health record, as needed
  • Creates and mails new patient information packets, copies and mails medical records requests; provides medical records coverage, as requested
  • Works patients’ reschedule report and daily call log
  • Mails/faxes reports/correspondence to physicians, patients and third parties
  • Retrieves faxes, lab reports and mails
  • Maintains compliance with all company policies, procedures and standards of conduct
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security requirements to maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs other duties as assigned
