About The Position

Fairview has an immediate opening for a Surgical Aide at St. John's Hospital, located in Maplewood, MN. This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per two-week pay period), benefits-eligible opening on evening shift, Monday - Friday, 2:30PM - 11PM, with rotating weekends. The Surgical Aide provides support to the surgical team under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. Transports patients, prepares equipment and supplies, transports specimens and assists in room turnover.

Requirements

Understands basic aseptic technique.
Understands the security requirements of medications and IV solutions
Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc or Red Cross)

Responsibilities

Transports patients to and from the operating room.
Assists with patient transfers on and off the operating room table. Assists with positioning as directed.
Assists with operating room turnover between cases.
Gathers operating room equipment and positioning devices as needed. Cleans and returns equipment to correct storage location.
Restocks basic operating room and anesthesia supplies.
Accesses medications or IV solutions only as required to perform normal job duties complying with all state and federal regulations regarding medication and IV solution security.
Stages team case carts and equipment as directed.
Checks and records anesthesia refrigerator temperature and reports discrepancies.
Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards.
Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.
