Your new career awaits you... We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Surgical Assistant II to join our team at the Chula Vista Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Center. The ideal candidate will provide advanced surgical assistance to oral and maxillofacial surgeons, ensuring efficient and safe surgical procedures while maintaining the highest standards of patient care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a surgical assistant training program preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a surgical assistant, preferably in oral and maxillofacial surgery or related surgical specialty.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterile techniques, and operating room procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Must be able to stand up to 80% of the time at minimum.
  • Physical requirements include sitting, stooping, turning, standing, bending, walking, hearing, reading, writing, and keyboarding, may lift up to 25 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) or equivalent is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist surgeons during oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures by preparing and handling instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Prepare the operating room and ensure all necessary surgical instruments and materials are sterile and ready for use.
  • Maintain a sterile field and adhere to infection control protocols throughout surgical procedures.
  • Monitor patient status and assist with patient positioning and draping during surgery.
  • Anticipate surgeon needs and provide timely assistance to facilitate smooth surgical workflow.
  • Assist with post-operative care, including dressing wounds and preparing patients for recovery.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures and instrument usage.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with surgical techniques and best practices.
  • Familiar with all forms and handouts (procedure-based, consent forms, etc.).
  • Aware of and in compliance with OSHA requirements (e.g. personal protection)
  • Greet patients and make them feel comfortable.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, filing, and charting.
  • Perform patient consultations.
  • Provide discharge instructions.
  • Make follow up phone calls to patients.
  • Take X-Rays / scans.
  • Enter EMR notes for various appointments and procedures.
  • Properly closing and opening the office each day (Tanks, Suction, Xray)
  • Back-up co-workers as needed.
