About The Position

Ortho Sport & Spine Physicians is a nationally recognized center of excellence in orthopedic sports medicine, orthopedic spine surgery, and interventional spine treatments. With locations throughout the United States, we specialize in state-of-the-art, minimally invasive treatments for complex neck and spine conditions as well as sports-related injuries. We are seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Medical Assistant to directly support one of our surgeons in a fast-paced surgical practice. Job Summary The Surgical Medical Assistant is responsible for providing direct clinical and administrative support to the surgeon while ensuring an exceptional patient experience. This role plays a critical part in coordinating surgical consults, preparing patients for procedures, assisting with in-office treatments, and supporting pre- and post-operative care. The ideal candidate thrives in a high-volume environment, anticipates provider needs, and demonstrates professionalism and compassion in all patient interactions.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program required
  • Strong understanding of pre-op and post-op workflows
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Strong EMR proficiency
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and clinical safety protocols
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Professional, compassionate bedside manner
  • Ability to Commute: Atlanta, GA 30328 (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • CMA or RMA certification strongly preferred
  • Prior experience in orthopedics or a surgical practice strongly preferred
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain exam and procedure rooms for surgical consults and follow-up visits
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for evaluation
  • Accurately document patient histories, vitals, and clinical information in the EMR
  • Assist the surgeon during in-office procedures as needed
  • Prepare patients for injections, minor procedures, and surgical consultations
  • Coordinate and complete pre-operative screening requirements
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, medications, post-operative instructions, and DME use
  • Fit and instruct patients on proper use of braces and other durable medical equipment
  • Maintain and sterilize instruments in accordance with sterile technique standards
  • Manage surgical scheduling coordination and communicate procedural details to patients
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies, surgical materials, and medications
  • Properly dispose of biohazard and SHARPS materials
  • Perform clinical and documentation audits as needed
  • Assist with prior authorizations and surgical documentation when required
  • Provide general administrative support within the surgical clinic
  • Other duties as assigned
