About The Position

Under the general direction of the Perioperative Services Director and/or OR Nurse Manager, performs duties relative to the Operating Room booking process of patients requiring a surgical procedure. Coordinates the various components of the O.R. scheduling process for Beverly Hospital OR, Lahey Outpatient Center Danvers and Addison Gilbert Hospital including: coordinating patient surgeries with Surgeon offices, Anesthesia and OR; entering this information into the O.R. Scheduling data base; preparing admission/registration forms, and performing other clerical duties related to scheduling patients to the O.R.

Responsibilities

Manages and communicates information through various processes, which include, but are not limited to the following: computers and telephone/paging systems.
Consistently maintains a courteous, helpful, and professional manner with all interactions with all customers.
Coordinates patient procedures with the anesthesiologist to ensure appropriate room and anesthesia availability.
Coordinates scheduling of surgical procedures for the OR, OB and CV suite.
Schedules patient O.R. procedures into the O.R. Scheduling System promptly, in a manner that provides the best possible outcome for the patient, while abiding by departmental protocols and procedures.
Coordinates any necessary arrangements with other departments (e.g. Radiology, O.R., ESWL, EEG, Pathology)
Identifies and schedules appropriate pre-op appointments in regard to surgical date within requested time frame (e.g. PAT, Prehab, Total Joint Class).
Promotes communications and problem solving with physician office staff, members of the health care team and inter-departmentally regarding scheduling of surgical cases.
Prepares surgical schedule for the following day and notifies anesthesia, ambulatory surgery and other appropriate personnel of any patients added on the schedule.
Solicits surgical volume when block time becomes available by contacting surgeon offices in order to maximize the utilization of the available OR time.
Notifies Anesthesia Department, O.R. and Ambulatory Surgery of any changes once the schedule has been finalized and sent out.
Check-in and announce surgeon's arrival to OR suite on day of surgery.
Performs all duties of Department Secretary II as needed.
Assists co-workers when short-staffed to help meet the needs of the Perioperative Services.
