About The Position

Assists with GI and pulmonary patient care activities and related services under the supervision and delegation of the registered nurse and/or physician including but not limited to intraprocedural support. Assists in procedures including esophagoduodenoscopy (EGD), endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), coloscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy (FFS), percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG), bronchoscopies, endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), bronchial electromagnetic navigation, intraductal cholangiopancreatography. Additionally able to assist in advanced procedures including endoscopic bronchial ultrasound (EBUS), double balloon endoscopy, motility studies, bariatric procedures, esophageal ablations, endomucosal resections, argon-plasma coagulation for bleeding tumors and debulking, photodynamic therapy, cryotherapy, tattooing for localization nodules, placement of fiducial markers, plurex catheter placement and endobronchial valve placement for both COPD management and persistent air leak management. Assists physicians with accurate retrieval of specimens, specimen preservation, labeling and transportation of specimens to lab. Assists physicians with cannulating, fine needle aspirations, balloon dilating, cholangiography, lithotripsy, liver biopsies, maintaining wider access in biliary and pancreatic ducts, placement of stents, lung cancer staging, alveolar lavage, lung volume reduction and foreign body removal. Must show an understanding of pulmonary anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of pulmonary diseases and pathology including cancer staging, disease specific application including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, techniques, and procedures. Must use reasoning and critical thinking in the field of interventional pulmonology including critical diagnostic thinking, evidence-based medicine, and quantitative studies in respiratory care. Collaborates with physician, nursing professional development specialist and department leadership in ongoing assessment, development and validation of staff education and competencies. Works with physicians and department leadership to support assessment and training of new equipment and procedures. Provides input in policy and guideline development. Participates in interventional pulmonology service meetings and growth planning. Assists with quality metrics development, monitoring, and improvement. Serves as expert resource for troubleshooting procedural equipment during all phases of the procedure and assists with complex advanced interventional and diagnostic procedures. Acts as a preceptor and/or resource to staff for all procedures. Assists to train others in all steps of manual and automated flexible endoscope reprocessing per standard and guidelines. This includes supporting training, developing, performing competencies, and providing direction for this aspect of daily operations Responsible for establishing and maintaining equipment and technology for advanced procedures and new technology in collaboration with department leader. Must be able to collaborate and coordinate with company vendors to ensure department needs. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the lifespan and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age- specific needs, and provide the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. Requirements

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required, and Interventional pulmonary assistant certification issued by Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) certification issued by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
• High School Graduate
• Typically requires 2 years of experience in endoscopy tech experience and 3 years of GI tech experience
• Ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Basic computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel and Word) or similar products
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.
• Must be able to: lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
• lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
• carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to: push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
• perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
• Must wear lead aprons with the weight resting on shoulders.
• Must have speech, hearing, & sight for communication during procedures in which incumbents are working side-by-side and must have touch and fine motor skill coordination.
• Must be able to function in a very limited space as procedure rooms are small and work will be in close proximity to the other health care members and physician they are assisting.
• May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids; therefore, protective clothing including gloves, gown, and masks with eye shields, laser glasses, foot, and hair covers just be worn as necessary.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
