Surgical Technologist Apprentice
About The Position
The Surgical Technologist Apprentice works under the direct supervision of a preceptor Surgical Technologist while completing an employer sponsored surgical technologist program through MedCerts. The Surgical Technologists Apprentice will collaborate with the preceptor Surgical Technologist to provide a safe, efficient environment for the surgical patient and staff by working in accordance with medical center standards of practice and by adhering to medical center policies/procedures, universal precautions, and sterile technique. The Surgical Technologist Apprentice develops clinical expertise by supporting patient care before and after surgical procedures. Working under a preceptor, the apprentice learns to maintain sterile fields, manage infection control, and assist providers with both invasive and non-invasive operations. Beyond hands-on technical support, the role requires a commitment to professional growth through a structured clinical program, consistent attendance, and the continuous fulfillment of competency requirements to ensure all tasks are performed safely within the professional scope of practice. Requirements
- Enrollment in the MedCerts Surgical technologist program and completion of the three course program and sit for the NCCT TC C exam.
- Completion of the MedCerts program coursework and clinical experience within eight months of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required within first 60 days of employment into position.
