About The Position

APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, LLC -- a globally recognized engineering firm with a strong coastal and hydrographic surveying practice -- is seeking an entry-level Survey Technician for our Boca Raton or Tampa, FL offices. Our team conducts topographic, hydrographic, and geodetic surveys that support coastal restoration, flood protection, offshore energy development, and land‑based engineering projects. The Survey Technician will assist with collecting, processing, and analyzing a wide range of survey data used to develop engineering maps, geologic assessments, technical reports, and field documentation. This position offers hands-on exposure to coastal, offshore, and upland survey methods, providing valuable experience across multiple environments and both in the field and in office. This role requires comfort working outdoors, strong physical capability, and the ability to perform fieldwork in coastal waters, offshore conditions, and rugged upland terrain.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 0--2 years of experience in land, coastal, or hydrographic surveying (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to swim confidently in ocean conditions with waves and currents.
  • Physical capability to work in rugged terrain and carry survey equipment over uneven ground, thick vegetation, and wet or soft surfaces.
  • Ability to drive large vehicles (trucks, SUVs, etc.); willingness to learn trailer towing if not already experienced.
  • General familiarity with field data collection methods or land/hydrographic survey concepts.
  • Willingness to travel frequently and work long hours in demanding environments.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working closely with a field team.
  • Basic proficiency with or interest in learning field data collection techniques and software such as GIS, Civil 3D, or HYPACK.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct coastal, offshore, and upland surveys, working up to 12‑hour field days for multiple consecutive days.
  • Participate in offshore surveys aboard large vessels for periods up to two weeks.
  • Perform field data collection using RTK GNSS, total stations, and single-beam or multibeam sonar systems (training provided).
  • Navigate and collect data in difficult terrain including dense brush, wetlands, soft sand, marshes, and uneven ground.
  • Operate or assist with operation of mid-size survey vessels (<30') during nearshore and coastal work.
  • Help mobilize, transport, load, and unload survey equipment in various environments.
  • Drive large vehicles (trucks, SUVs, etc.) and tow survey trailers; training provided for candidates new to trailer handling.
  • Travel approximately 60% within the United States.
  • Assist with office-based tasks including data processing and map/report preparation using software such as GIS, Civil 3D, and HYPACK.
