We are seeking a well-qualified individual for the position of Survivability Department Assistant Manager. Location: This position allows for remote work. The ideal candidate would be available to attend meetings at a Leidos Gibbs & Cox office as needed. Preferred office locations for meetings include Arlington VA, Washington D.C. (Navy Yard), Philadelphia PA, New York NY, New Orleans LA and Newport News VA. The Assistant Department Manager is responsible for supporting the Department Manager with the technical and management needs of an engineering department with 20+ engineers in multiple locations with a concentration in the following: Navy Ship Design and Construction Survivability Analyses Recoverability and Damage Control Vulnerability Shock Environmental Qualification Testing (EQT) Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Ship Inspections The Assistant Department Manager will help lead the team through planning, organization, development, review, and delivery of Survivability-related products. Duties include direct engagement with engineers, along with their respective projects, to ensure scope, schedule, budget, and technical constraints are met. The candidate must have demonstrated success in leading a team of engineering professionals in a matrixed, multi-project environment that provides “cradle to the grave” support from conceptual design through detail design and construction, test and trials, and to post-delivery support. The candidate must have the ability to produce manhour and Basis of Estimates for future work. In parallel, the Assistant Department Manager will continue to support the department as a subject matter expert / project manager in the field of survivability or EQT.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in an engineering field with 7+ years of experience in maritime design and engineering
  • Technical expertise in a survivability related field
  • Familiarity with key stakeholders and customers located in shipbuilding industry and relevant government entities such as Naval Surface Warfare Centers, NAVSEA, OPNAV, etc.
  • Strong technical writing and written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and with remote team members and/or customers
  • Excellent MS Office skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • U.S. Citizen and must currently hold a US SECRET security clearance

  • Providing strong, proactive, and dedicated leadership skills that engage multidiscipline work teams to respond to business needs for assigned projects.
  • Developing or reviewing products such as analyses, calculations, reports, and drawings.
  • Offering mentorship and training for professional development and growth.
  • Determining staffing and tasking for the department.
  • Solving engineering problems.
  • Marketing and networking new opportunities and customers to expand the portfolio of survivability and EQT.
