About The Position

At Millipore Sigma, the Sustainability Project Engineer serves as the primary Sustainability Lead for the St. Louis operations. Working with production, maintenance and project engineering, you will be responsible for developing and managing the long-term sustainability roadmap. As a Sustainability Project Engineer, you will lead the tracking, analysis, and improvement of utility consumption (electricity, natural gas, steam, compressed air, water, and wastewater) within a manufacturing facility. You will build reliable measurement and reporting routines, translate data into actionable insights, and partner with operations and maintenance teams to reduce resource intensity while supporting production continuity, quality, and safety. In this role, you will own the facility’s utility metering and data management approach—validating meter accuracy, resolving data gaps, and establishing baselines and key performance indicators (KPIs) such as energy intensity and water intensity. You will develop dashboards and regular performance reports, investigate abnormal consumption patterns, and conduct root-cause analyses to identify drivers of loss (e.g., leaks, equipment inefficiency, control drift, suboptimal operating schedules). You will also support audits and compliance needs by maintaining clear documentation and traceable calculations. You will identify, evaluate, and deliver utility optimization initiatives, from low-cost operational changes to capital projects (e.g., heat recovery, equipment upgrades, controls optimization, and leak detection/repair programs). This includes quantifying savings, estimating payback, coordinating trials, supporting project implementation, and verifying results through measurement and verification (M&V) methods. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, EHS, production, facilities, procurement, and external service providers to ensure solutions are practical and sustained.
