About The Position

The Edwards and Kidde Commercial divisions of Kidde Global Solutions is currently looking for a Sustaining Engineering Manager who will have direct reporting responsibilities for a cross-functional engineering team tasked with maintaining a substantial fire alarm control panel, detection and device and notification appliance product portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelors’ degree
  • 10+ years of experience in Engineering design, test and development
  • 8+ years of experience in the Commercial Fire Alarm industry
  • 5+ years of experience with direct report Engineering management and / or Project Management

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Communications, Computer Science or Systems Engineering
  • 8+ years of experience in the Commercial Fire Alarm or similarly regulated industry
  • Significant experience in embedded systems, firmware and hardware design
  • Expertise in operations and manufacturing environment
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • High energy and ability to engage a team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with product quality control
  • Knowledge of electronics manufacturing
  • Product test and validation
  • Experience with MRP and PLM systems
  • Requirements management experience
  • Experience working with teams from multiple countries

Responsibilities

  • First tier Engineering support for requests and queries from Technical Support, Product Management, Quality, Factory/Operations, Supply Chain and Sales
  • Triage incoming requests to ensure that there is a clear understanding of relative criticality of a request or issue for our Customers and our Business
  • Assign resources to align with business priorities and work with other Engineering team leaders to allocate their resources to address tasks when necessary
  • Deliver clear and timely communication to team, cross-functional departments, and leadership
  • Identify and execute Productivity efforts
  • Lead product certification and listing efforts (UL/ULC, FM, EN54, CCCF, etc.)
  • Ensure product compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Component EOL and Allocation resolution through alternate source approval or redesign project
  • Execute projects to add features to released products
  • Drive root cause analysis of quality and manufacturing issues
  • Define design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality when considering product cost, manufacturability and available technologies
  • Ensure products meet requirements for quality, safety and reliability
  • Participate in design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) reviews
  • Drive cross functional development of standard work and continuous improvement
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
