About The Position

The Solar O&M / Sustainment Technician is a field-based, hands-on service role responsible for performing ongoing operations, maintenance, inspection, and corrective service work on completed residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role supports the long-term performance, safety, and reliability of solar assets throughout the warranty period through direct technical work and customer-facing service support. Work schedules may vary based on service demand, travel requirements, weather conditions, and project needs. Overtime may be required and is compensated in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Regular operation of a company vehicle is required- MUST have clean MVR.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical or trade training in electrical, solar, or a related field preferred.
  • Proven experience as a residential solar installer, solar service technician, or electrician performing hands-on field work.
  • Experience performing maintenance, troubleshooting, or repair of solar PV systems.
  • General knowledge of workplace safety regulations and practices, including OSHA standards.
  • Minimum OSHA 10 certification (or ability to obtain within required timeframe).
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with company policy.
  • Ability to travel regionally using a company vehicle.
  • Strong working knowledge of residential solar PV systems and basic commercial solar system components.
  • Ability to perform hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to work safely at heights and on pitched roof surfaces.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills when working with homeowners, commercial clients, and internal teams.
  • Ability to follow established procedures, work instructions, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently in the field while following direction from supervisors and management.
  • Ability to accurately document work performed using digital tools and service ticket systems.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 60 pounds and perform sustained physical labor throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Willingness to learn and expand technical knowledge across residential and commercial solar systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SolarEdge, CPS, SMA, Fronius, Enphase, or Tesla equipment.
  • Forklift certification (preferred, not required).

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on service, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and commercial solar PV systems, including electrical, mechanical, and structural components.
  • Conduct routine operations and maintenance (O&M) inspections on roof-mounted, ground-mounted, and carport solar systems.
  • Identify system performance issues, component failures, and installation deficiencies; complete corrective maintenance as required.
  • Safely access and work on high and pitched roof surfaces and elevated structures.
  • Travel to customer sites regionally, including but not limited to Illinois, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Nebraska.
  • Interact directly with residential and commercial customers during service visits to explain findings, required repairs, and next steps.
  • Complete service documentation, job notes, and reports to support service tracking and billing processes.
  • Update service tickets and work records using company systems, including remote access tools.
  • Provide observational feedback regarding workmanship or installation issues identified during service work to internal teams to support quality improvement.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors as directed to communicate identified deficiencies and required corrective actions.
  • Participate in required safety, technical, and procedural training, including manufacturer-led and in-house training.
  • Maintain required safety certifications and manufacturer credentials.
  • Assist with organization, upkeep, and inventory of tools, service equipment, and service-related materials as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies, safety requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
