About The Position

Love the water and enjoy helping kids learn new skills? Want a summer job that’s fun and meaningful? The Crystal Lake Park District is hiring Swim Instructors to teach swim lessons, promote water safety, and help swimmers build confidence in the water. Please include two letters of recommendation with your application What You’ll Be Doing As a Swim Instructor, you’ll: Teach swim lessons using the Park District’s Swim curriculum. Help swimmers feel safe, confident, and successful in the water. Encourage good safety habits and a love of swimming. Track swimmer progress and help with simple progress reports. Be patient, positive, and supportive with swimmers of all ages. Share information about aquatic programs with families when needed. Attend required trainings and staff meetings. Watch for safety hazards and report or fix issues when possible. Help with light cleanup to keep aquatic areas clean and safe. Wear your uniform and represent the Park District professionally.

Requirements

  • Are at least 15 years old.
  • Have the CPR certification for the professional rescuer.
  • Enjoy working with kids and helping others learn.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with swimmers, parents, and coworkers.
  • Are reliable, punctual, and take responsibility seriously.
  • Can work independently while also being a team player.
  • Are comfortable enforcing rules in a calm, respectful way.

Nice To Haves

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is preferred (but not required).
