About The Position

The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching age-appropriate swimming skills and water safety techniques in a safe, structured, and encouraging environment. This role focuses on developing stroke competency, water confidence, and safety awareness while fostering positive relationships with students and families. Swim Instructors must maintain constant supervision of participants, adhere to established safety protocols, and be prepared to respond appropriately in emergency situations.

Requirements

  • Profess and demonstrate a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Exhibit a consistent Christian testimony and adherence to biblical principles in personal and professional life.
  • Demonstrate spiritual maturity, humility, and a strong commitment to excellence and servant leadership
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, or ability to obtain certification, required.
  • Current First Aid certification, or ability to obtain certification, required.
  • Working knowledge of all swimming strokes.
  • Ability to maintain constant vigilance and supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and instruct children in a structured learning environment.
  • Dependable, patient, and attentive to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Lifeguard Certification preferred (may be required based on facility staffing model).
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification preferred.
  • Competitive swimming background preferred.
  • Experience working with children strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver structured, level-specific swim instruction in accordance with established curriculum standards.
  • Teach stroke mechanics, breathing techniques, water safety skills, and confidence-building exercises.
  • Maintain active supervision of all students throughout each lesson.
  • Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to promote skill development.
  • Complete and distribute progress evaluations or report cards for each participant.
  • Ensure a safe aquatic environment by following all facility rules and safety procedures.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations in accordance with CPR/AED and First Aid training.
  • Maintain awareness of rescue procedures and emergency action plans.
  • Report incidents or safety concerns promptly to management.
  • Maintain open, professional communication with parents regarding student progress and skill development.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and preparedness for all assigned classes.
  • Attend required in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
  • Model a Christ-honoring attitude and servant leadership in all interactions.
