About The Position

In this position, you will participate in BAE Systems' nationwide LEAP Internship & Co-op Program, where you will Learn, Engage, Apply, and Progress within the company. The LEAP Program will provide you with the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals on impactful projects, engage in career development opportunities, and network with our business leaders and the other students in the program. BAE Systems is seeking an ON-SITE Systems Administrator Intern for Summer 2026 to join our IT Operations Team. The intern will work with our team of experienced system administrators and be responsible for supporting our Windows Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of tasks, including system hardening, troubleshooting, software installation and configuration, and user account management.

Requirements

  • Position is full-time on-site at Washington Navy Yard to meet customer demands
  • Ability to obtain a Department of War (DoW) Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Common Access Card (CAC), badge access to the customer’s facility, and a SSP network account in good standing.
  • Basic understanding of Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems.
  • Familiarity with networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A strong desire to learn and a proactive attitude.

  • Experience with DISA STIGS

Responsibilities

  • Assist in hardening systems in compliance with the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues.
  • Install, configure, and maintain server operating systems, including Windows Servers and RHEL servers.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and access rights within Active Directory.
  • Monitor system performance and security to ensure system availability and reliability.
  • Assist with data backup and recovery procedures.
  • Create and maintain documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Collaborate with other IT team members on various projects.
