About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Healthcare Safety Data and Training Group Manager, performs highly complex (senior-level) computer systems analysis work related to the Texas Healthcare Safety Network (TxHSN) reporting system. Completes Chapter 98 Texas Health and Safety Code mandated healthcare safety reporting, learning g needs assessments, infection control and response assessments, and healthcare worker training tracking. Serves as a subject matter expert in Preventable Adverse Events (PAEs) and Hospital Associated Infections (HAI), two critical areas of emphasis in this department. Work involves planning and analyzing TxHSN user requirements, processes or problems to enhance, update or maintain the Tx HSN system, including performance of user acceptance testing. Provides guidance on any aspects of the TxHSN reporting system for internal and external partners. Represents program as TxHSN Application subject matter expert. Creates ad hoc reports of TxHSN data when requested. Involved in public health education program activities and provides consultative services and technical assistance to epidemiologists on the healthcare safety unit, the general public, professional organizations, local and regional health departments, government agencies and any application users. Ensures Healthcare Safety data quality in TxHSN system. Works cohesively with a multidisciplinary team of health-related advocates, experts, and stakeholders who are passionate about high quality and accessible healthcare, health education, health promotion, and public health in an ever-changing field. Duties performed under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications for data management Knowledge of healthcare safety and data sources.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws related to healthcare safely including mandatory reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with PAE users about errors in data or non-reporting status
  • Pull PAE compliance report from TxHSN and clean it up
  • Pull line list of all PAEs- sort into desired data report type
  • Process facility PAE comment workflow
  • Some duties are the same as HAI reporting- activities with bulk reports and communication to facilities about verification of data
  • HAI Reporting Related Activities
  • Generate data sets in NHSN and pull reports
  • Clean up the raw data and merge into files for TxHSN data feed
  • Coordinate with Regulatory to receive updated facility file, clean up file, and resolve missing facilities
  • Coordinate with ApDev using ITPublic Health ticket system to load data feed through testing dev/test/prod testing process
  • Email facility contacts regarding data verification and corrections
  • Create bulk export of facility records and test for accuracy
  • Coordinate with ApDev to move the bulk exported reports to our public site through the dev/test/prod testing process
  • Process facility HAI comment workflow
  • Updates the HAI and PAE distribution list on a regular basis
  • HAI helpdesk emails for HAI and PAE inquiries
  • PAE helpdesk emails
  • Process new TxHSN HAI and PAE contact changes
  • Create ‘How To’ documents for processes related to reporting
  • Occasional model changes when needed to TxHSN
  • Occasional request for data (open records or otherwise)

  • Troubleshoot with developers on bugs and deployments
  • Provide updates and percentage completions for weekly/monthly/quarterly leadership requests (grant related or other requests)
  • Performs related duties as assigned that include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or continuity of operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.
