About The Position

Mission Technologies, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is seeking a highly experienced Systems Engineer to support the Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE) for the Joint Staff J7 (JS J-7) at the Suffolk, VA Joint Staff Complex. This senior role supports critical joint training environments and requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical skills, and the ability to solve complex engineering challenges in a fast paced operational setting.

Requirements

  • 15 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 13 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 10 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 19 years relevant experience.
  • Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+, CCNA Security).
  • Must have an active Secret Clearance.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast paced operational environment.
  • Experience administering and troubleshooting Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Hands on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper V.
  • Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS configuration.
  • Proficiency with system imaging, backup tools, patch management, and software deployment.
  • Experience supporting classified enclaves or mission critical DoD systems.
  • Familiarity with DoD training systems or infrastructure such as JLVC, JTT, or other Joint Staff developed capabilities.

  • Experience supporting live or simulated training exercise environments.
  • Background supporting DoD operational or exercise focused environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk analysis, and system supportability assessments.
  • Conduct analysis across the full system lifecycle including design, fabrication, testing, installation, operations, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Convert customer requirements into comprehensive system solutions that meet technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Lead functional and timeline analyses, trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition.
  • Apply advanced engineering concepts, contributing to new methodologies and highly innovative technical solutions.
  • Solve unusually complex technical problems requiring creativity and advanced technical judgment.
  • Maintain system availability by ensuring all environments are updated, patched, monitored, and functioning efficiently.
  • Conduct proactive system monitoring, fault isolation, and issue resolution during steady state and exercise operations.
  • Configure environments to meet specialized exercise requirements based on planning inputs.
  • Provide on site or remote technical support during integration, execution, and post exercise activities.
  • Support implementation of DoD cybersecurity best practices.
  • Partner with planners to understand exercise schedules and system requirements.
  • Participate in planning conferences, technical out briefs, and readiness reviews.
