About The Position

Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Export Control : This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. Citizen in order to comply with U.S. government-imposed requirements related to the nature of the work and/or where it will be performed. We are seeking a highly experienced systems engineer to drive technical excellence in enterprise infrastructure deployment and operations across Leo's rapidly expanding global footprint. This role will be instrumental in designing and implementing critical infrastructure systems, establishing technical standards, and ensuring operational readiness across multiple facilities and technical environments. A successful candidate is a technical leader who combines deep systems engineering expertise with strong architectural vision, has experience scaling infrastructure in regulated environments, and possesses comprehensive knowledge across network systems, security controls, and enterprise infrastructure domains. You will serve as a technical authority for infrastructure initiatives while mentoring team members and driving continuous improvement in our systems and processes. This role requires 50% travel. In this role, you will serve as a technical leader driving the design and implementation of mission-critical infrastructure across Leo's global operations. Your work will directly enable Leo's manufacturing, testing, and operational capabilities through robust and scalable infrastructure solutions. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the technical foundation of Leo's infrastructure while working with advanced technologies in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. You'll be at the forefront of designing and implementing the systems that enable Leo's ambitious global mission. You'll be joining a newly formed infrastructure program team within Enterprise Technology, focused on building and scaling the foundation that enables Leo's ambitious mission. Our team combines deep technical expertise with strong program management capabilities to deliver critical infrastructure on time and at scale. Requirements

  • 4+ years of site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration experience
  • 5+ years of Linux experience
  • 5+ years of systems engineering experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
  • Experience in site reliability engineering (SRE), systems engineering, systems administration, DevOps, security administration, or network administration
  • Experience working with Linux
  • Experience in systems engineering
  • Experience in any of the following: Python, Java, Perl, PHP, Ruby, Bash, Shell or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and networking protocols such as HTTP and DNS
  • Experience designing and developing scripts to automate operational burdens and reviewing scripting changes to ensure they meet the standards for maintainability, scalability and security
  • Experience working in 24/7 production environment
  • Experience with service-oriented architecture and web services

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical authority for infrastructure design and implementation across Leo's facilities
  • Lead architecture and design of enterprise infrastructure systems including network, compute, and security
  • Develop technical standards and specifications for infrastructure deployments
  • Guide integration of infrastructure monitoring and management platforms
  • Provide technical oversight for critical infrastructure programs
  • Drive technical due diligence and risk assessment for new infrastructure initiatives
  • Design and implement scalable infrastructure solutions across multiple technical domains
  • Lead complex system integration efforts across network, compute, and security infrastructure
  • Develop and validate infrastructure deployment architectures
  • Create technical requirements and design documentation
  • Implement infrastructure lifecycle management processes

  • Define standard operating procedures and technical playbooks
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex technical issues
