About The Position

Join the innovative and high‑impact Planar Motion Coordination team within Global Systems Engineering, Safety, and Validation as a Systems Engineer. Our team defines and delivers the Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation and Vehicle Dynamics Motion Control systems that shape how every GM vehicle performs on the road. In this role, you will lead the definition, requirements development, and integration of GM’s Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation System—a foundational technology that fuses sensor data to calculate the vehicle’s dynamic state (reference velocity, accelerations, tire forces, and more). This system enables a wide range of advanced control features across GM’s global portfolio. As a senior engineer, you will collaborate across functions, influence technical direction, and drive alignment on system behavior and performance. Your work will directly impact chassis controls, safety systems, electrification, and autonomous‑ready technologies, helping GM engineer safer, more responsive, and more intelligent vehicles.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics or related field of study.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in system or controls development.
  • Experience developing or integrating embedded control systems.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to operate test vehicles as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one or more of the following areas: vehicle dynamics, chassis controls, calibration, software development, systems engineering, vehicle integration, or electrical system design.
  • Experience developing vehicle motion state estimators, including variables such as velocity, acceleration, and tire forces under both nominal and faulted conditions.
  • Proficiency with vehicle dynamics simulation tools such as CarSim or CarMaker, along with associated testing techniques.
  • Understanding of distributed and networked real‑time control systems.
  • Understanding of embedded software development and test tools.
  • Familiarity with end‑user driving experience and how system behaviors translate to customer perception.
  • Experience with vehicle integration or systems that interface closely with powertrain, braking, suspension, or steering systems.

Responsibilities

  • Defining functional and performance requirements in collaboration with cross‑functional engineering and product teams.
  • Creating key system engineering work products, including System Technical Specifications, System FMEAs, and Development & Validation Plans.
  • Leading execution of new requirements and cascading roll‑down to impacted organizations, ensuring alignment and traceability.
  • Guiding confirmation of requirements through analysis, simulation, and physical testing (including HIL benches and vehicles).
  • Driving resolution of cross‑organizational system implementation issues and communicating progress and risks to leadership.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert for Vehicle Dynamics State Estimation across the corporation, influencing technology direction and integration strategies.
