About The Position

Reporting to the IT Helpdesk Manager, the Systems & Technology Integration Technician provides onsite technical support for Shaw University is Title III-funded campus security and access control modernization project. This position supports the installation, validation, and stabilization of surveillance and access control systems across priority campus facilities. The Systems & Technology Integration Technician works closely with the Project Manager, OIT Infrastructure team, Campus Police, Facilities, and the vendor to ensure equipment is installed correctly, operationally tested, documented, and transitioned into long-term support operations.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Media Technology, Electronics, Networking, or related field
  • 2+ years of hands-on technical support experience in one or more of the following:
  • Security camera systems
  • Access control systems
  • Network device installation
  • Low-voltage systems support
  • Field technician or onsite IT support roles
  • Basic understanding of IP-based surveillance systems
  • Basic understanding of access control systems (card readers, door controllers, mag locks, strike locks)
  • Familiarity with structured cabling standards and troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems
  • Basic networking skills (IP addressing, connectivity testing, PoE basics)

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite support during installation of campus surveillance and access control systems
  • Assist with camera placement verification and field validation during deployment
  • Support access control device installation and testing for high-risk door access points
  • Coordinate with vendor technicians during onsite work activities
  • Assist OIT Infrastructure staff with network readiness checks tied to camera and access control connectivity
  • Support equipment staging, inventory tracking, and deployment coordination
  • Perform basic troubleshooting of surveillance devices, access control readers, door hardware interfaces, and related cabling
  • Document installation details including device locations, labeling, configurations, and final acceptance results
  • Support system acceptance testing and stabilization activities after deployment
  • Assist in developing user documentation, quick reference guides, and internal support materials
  • Support staff training sessions for system use and operational procedures
  • Assist Campus Police and key stakeholders during transition into operational monitoring workflows
  • Support performance monitoring, issue tracking, and project closeout reporting
  • Other duties as assigned
