About The Position

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states. Waymo's Systems Engineering team works together to blend software and hardware systems in groundbreaking new ways. We set the high performance standards that ensure our vehicles run smoothly and keep passengers safe, then design and perform the tests that validate that performance. We're looking for talented teammates who’ll help us maintain strong teamwork and are passionate about driving results. This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to a Systems Engineer Lead

  • Experience working with large databases using SQL or similar query languages
  • Expertise with production-level software concepts in C++ and/or Python
  • Strong communication, coordination, and collaboration skills. Able to independently execute simultaneous test campaigns
  • Test planning and experimental design; working knowledge of test “best practices”
  • Bachelor and/or Master's degree in a relevant engineering or a related field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, etc.) or equivalent practical experience

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of autonomous driving vehicles, infrastructure, and operations
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles such as defining requirements and formal verification and validation methods
  • Data analysis and test scripting/automation experience (C/C++, Python, Matlab/Simulink)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, expand, and accelerate the Verification and Validation strategy for new and existing autonomous vehicle platforms, specifically for the Commercialization areas:
  • Plan and schedule V&V campaigns based on the scope of Requirements
  • Coordinate, and supervise the verification activities for these domains (reviewing Requirements, designing Tests, and getting them executed)
  • Drive alignment and test planning activities with other stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective collaboration across Waymo
  • Provide technical support to Test Engineers and Test Conductors during the execution of the verification activities
  • Become the point of contact and be accountable for the tests requested from Systems Engineers or Developers to test new features or detect regressions for existing ones
  • Develop and execute on test automation strategy for verification corpus which effectively utilizes Waymo's suite of test environments from software-in-loop simulation to component HILs to full vehicle HILs
  • Expand the test infrastructure and capabilities of the Test Engineering team in the Commercialization and Depot areas:
  • Identify, conceptualize and coordinate the creation of new verification methodologies to enable the team to test faster and more efficiently
  • Design and implement process improvements in order to maximize the impact of the verification tools available
  • Support test automation efforts using internal tools and processes including expanding test automation features
