About The Position

ProTeam Tactical Performance partners with Oklahoma City public safety agencies to keep the community's protectors healthy, resilient, and ready for duty. Our mission is to deliver evidence-informed performance training, injury prevention programming, and reconditioning services that reduce injuries, optimize physical readiness, and support long, healthy careers in public safety. If you are a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist who is passionate about serving law enforcement and fire service personnel in an on-site, team-based clinical environment, consider the following opportunity. The Tactical Strength & Conditioning Coach designs and delivers performance training, injury prevention programming, and return-to-performance reconditioning for Oklahoma City public safety professionals. This position works in close collaboration with an on-site Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer to provide seamless transitions from rehabilitation to performance training and to support long-term physical resilience and operational readiness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Human Performance, or a related field
  • Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA)
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience designing and delivering strength and conditioning programming for active, high-demand populations
  • Valid Driver's License at the time of appointment and throughout employment
  • Strong knowledge of exercise science principles including biomechanics, physiology, periodization, and program design
  • Ability to design and progress training programs that are specific to the physical demands of firefighting and law enforcement duties
  • Proficiency in teaching and coaching foundational movement patterns including squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, and loaded carries
  • Competence in administering and interpreting fitness assessments, movement screens, and functional performance tests
  • Familiarity with return-to-performance reconditioning principles and the ability to bridge the gap between rehabilitation and full operational readiness
  • Ability to modify programming based on individual fitness levels, movement limitations, injury history, and operational demands
  • Proficiency using athlete management systems, training tracking software, and standard computer applications for documentation and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and trust with law enforcement and fire service personnel
  • Strong verbal communication and coaching skills to clearly convey exercise technique, training rationale, and performance feedback
  • Ability to deliver engaging group presentations and one-on-one education sessions tailored to the unique culture and needs of public safety professionals
  • Effective written communication skills for program documentation, progress reports, and educational materials
  • Ability to build cooperative, effective working relationships with Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, agency leadership, and public safety personnel whose backgrounds may differ from one's own
  • Positive attitude toward and respect for the law enforcement and fire service professions and the communities they serve
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training groups, individual programs, and administrative tasks with minimal supervision
  • Sound judgment and adaptability when working with personnel of varying fitness levels, injury histories, and motivational profiles
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and remain calm during emergencies or high-stress situations
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding personnel health information, fitness data, and other restricted information
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development through continuing education, mentoring, networking, and engagement with the tactical strength and conditioning community
  • Ability to consider programs and policies from multiple viewpoints and adjust approaches based on feedback and outcome data
  • High physical demand role that includes frequent standing, walking, demonstrating exercises, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and to assist with equipment setup, breakdown, and maintenance
  • Ability to perform and demonstrate functional movement patterns including squatting, lunging, crawling, climbing, and loaded carries
  • Functional abilities including visual acuity, speech, hearing, and hand-eye coordination sufficient to coach exercise technique and ensure participant safety
  • Ability to tolerate varied indoor environmental conditions such as noise, temperature fluctuations, and equipment congestion
  • Ability to work occasional extended or irregular hours to support training events, fitness testing, recruit academy schedules, or agency needs
  • Occasional travel between Oklahoma City public safety locations as dictated by contractual obligations and program needs

  • Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator (TSAC-F) certification through the NSCA
  • Master's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field
  • Prior experience working with tactical athletes such as military, law enforcement, or fire service personnel
  • Experience collaborating with Physical Therapists, Athletic Trainers, or other healthcare professionals in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Background in athletic training, sports performance, or military fitness programming
  • Familiarity with functional movement screening, return-to-performance protocols, and injury prevention programming

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement evidence-informed strength, conditioning, and movement training programs tailored to the physical demands of law enforcement and fire service work
  • Conduct individual and small-group training sessions focused on functional movement, force production, power, endurance, and occupational task simulation
  • Develop and deliver injury prevention programming that addresses common musculoskeletal risk factors in tactical populations, including mobility deficits, strength imbalances, and poor movement patterns
  • Educate personnel on training principles, load management, recovery strategies, and long-term physical development
  • Conduct baseline fitness assessments, movement screens, and functional performance testing to guide programming and track progress over time
  • Collaborate closely with the Physical Therapist to design and progress return-to-performance reconditioning programs for personnel recovering from injury or surgery
  • Provide bridging programming that transitions individuals from clinical rehabilitation to full operational readiness, ensuring safe load progression and movement quality
  • Communicate regularly with the Physical Therapist and Athletic Trainer regarding individual readiness, functional limitations, and training modifications
  • Support functional duty assessments by administering performance-based testing and providing objective data to inform return-to-duty decisions
  • Monitor training response, fatigue, and injury risk indicators to adjust programming and communicate concerns to the clinical team
  • Develop annual and seasonal training plans that align with agency operational calendars, training cycles, and performance goals
  • Create and maintain exercise libraries, training resources, and educational materials for use by public safety personnel
  • Track key performance metrics including attendance, adherence, fitness outcomes, movement quality scores, and injury rates
  • Document training sessions and individual progress using appropriate tracking systems and provide regular reports to the Chief Operations Officer and agency stakeholders
  • Use data to refine programming, identify trends, and support continuous improvement in injury prevention and performance outcomes
  • Provide group education and one-on-one coaching on topics such as strength training principles, cardiovascular conditioning, nutrition for performance, sleep and recovery, and load management
  • Participate in recruit academy training, fitness testing, and in-service sessions for incumbent staff as requested by agency leadership
  • Serve as an advocate for ProTeam Tactical Performance, modeling professionalism, respect for public safety culture, and commitment to evidence-informed practice
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials, presentations, and resources tailored to the unique needs of tactical athletes
  • Stay current with emerging research and best practices in tactical strength and conditioning, human performance optimization, and injury prevention
