About The Position

The Adapted PE Teacher will collaborate and partner with general education physical education teachers, special education service providers, parents and the student to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for students with disabilities who qualify for adapted physical education services. Requirements

  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, K-12; Master's Degree preferred
  • Must hold a valid Colorado Department of Education (CDE) teaching license.
  • Special Education or Adapted Physical Education endorsement through the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) is preferred
  • Completion of an approved graduate-level program in adapted physical education for school-aged children is preferred
  • Effective time management and organizational skills
  • Course work in Adapted Physical Education (APE) is strongly recommended, but not required
  • Experience working with students with disabilities is preferred
  • Valid Colorado Drivers License
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

  • Experience working with young special needs students and their parents preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs relevant, comprehensive evaluations for students with disabilities or suspected disabilities to support team determination of the need for APE specialized instruction supports and services
  • Provide direct specialized instruction to students in one-on-one and/or small groups in accordance with the designated APE IEP services and goals inside and/or outside of the general education physical education class
  • Provide indirect consultative support to general education physical education teachers to successfully implement accommodation(s) and modification(s) to support students with access, participation in, and making progress in the general education curriculum
  • Provide indirect support to special education teachers and paraprofessionals responsible to assist and support students in their general education physical education curriculum and make progress on their APE goals, including supporting data tracking
  • Providing documentation that is accurate and appropriate, including recording progress toward IEP goals, complete IEP progress reports in accordance with the school's reporting schedule, service documentation, etc.
  • Attend and participate in IEP meeting, parent teacher conference and other designated job related meetings
  • As directed by the Special Education Department, provide and/or participate in professional development to support skill development of school staff and/or parents, as well as self
  • May participate in extra-duty activities as outlined in the teachers' collective bargaining agreement (this is for coaching, tutoring, or summer programs, etc. for Dept. of Labor laws).
