About The Position

Professional and temporary teaching staff are needed to teach the Summer Academy program, which supports K-8 classes at Rochester Community Schools. Applications for these temporary positions will be accepted until they are filled. Teachers will be expected to implement innovative instructional techniques to improve student achievement. Emphasis will be placed on higher-level thinking skills, organizational skills, integration of knowledge, connecting learning to prior knowledge, cooperative learning, active learner participation, and technology integration. A summary of what was covered in the program will be shared with parents via a written progress report on the program's last day. The actual number of positions depends on enrollment. Classrooms will be structured with teachers who will co-plan and co-teach. In the absence of one co-teacher, the other will be responsible for performing all regular professional duties without additional compensation. Substitute teachers are not available during this summer's programming. Progress reports will be required for parents on the last day of the program. McGregor Elementary June 15 – 18, 22– 25, 29-30, July 1 – 2 (12 days) Staff Hours: 8:00 am – 12:30 pm Student Hours: 8:15 am – 12:15 pm Mandatory Staff Meeting and Room Prep: June 11th (8:00 am – 12:30 pm) Mandatory Clean-up/Check-out: July 2nd (stay until 1:00 pm) Interviews are scheduled for March.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Desire to work with at-risk students
  • Willingness to work with students who need to be academically challenged
  • Must be available to work the entire length of the program

Responsibilities
