About The Position

Cenovus is hiring for a Team Lead, Rotating Equipment for our Toledo Refinery to oversee safe and reliable rotating equipment maintenance and lead daily operations of the Cenovus Machine Shop. The role develops and supports machinists and millwrights while guiding repair strategies in partnership with engineering. It also manages preventive maintenance for refinery machinery and coordinates field and shop activities to ensure efficient execution.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the US
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 7+ years relevant experience in a refinery of like heavy industrial setting environment
  • Machinist / Millwright apprenticeship
  • Working in or alongside union represented craft
  • Coaching, directing, appraising, and counselling employees
  • Working knowledge of Centrifugal and Reciprocating Compressors, Gear Boxes, and API Pumps.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure strong health, safety, and environmental performance; lead safety investigations, audits, and machine shop safety initiatives.
  • Lead and manage the UNION Machinist craft, including training, coaching, performance management, grievance handling, and adherence to labor agreements.
  • Oversee all Machine Shop operations—budgets, tooling and equipment procurement, calibration compliance, staffing, scheduling, and administrative recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate maintenance planning and execution by preparing jobs, assigning craftsmen, verifying materials, and communicating changes to ensure safe, high‑quality, timely work.
  • Partner with engineering, maintenance leads, planners, and operations to troubleshoot equipment issues, define scopes of work, and support continuous improvement.
  • Manage machinist training programs, including CDT skill development, identifying competency gaps, and documenting progress.
  • Monitor and report performance metrics, drive process improvements, and implement enhanced job methods, tools, and maintenance techniques.
  • Participate in scheduling, emergency response, and technical evaluations while ensuring accurate work documentation and effective backlog and resource management.
  • Manage Contracted Union Millwrights through their Supervisors.
  • Manage Specialty Contractors (Field Machining), (Compressor Overhaul Crews) (Civil Crews for equipment Grouting) etc.
