The Lead CAD Technician serves as the primary owner of CAD standards, drafting quality, workflow governance, and cross departmental coordination for the Technical Commercial Support team. This role holds operational authority for establishing and enforcing CAD drafting standards, managing workload distribution, and ensuring consistent, build ready drawing output across the organization. Operating with minimal supervision, the Lead CAD Technician exercises independent judgment in interpreting requirements, improving processes, advising internal requestors, and enforcing quality controls. While capable of producing technical drawings, hands on drafting is secondary and performed primarily for complex cases, overflow coverage, and training/reference development. · Own, develop, implement, and enforce all CAD drafting standards, templates, libraries, and workflow requirements. · Maintain and update the CAD Standards Manual; issue revisions and ensure organization-wide compliance. · Approve all drawing releases; conduct quality reviews and require rework when standards or accuracy criteria are not met. · Ensure drawing packages meet buildability, accuracy, and technical rigor prior to release. · Direct, balance, and prioritize CAD team workload to meet service levels, turnaround expectations, and project deadlines. · Serve as the primary interface between CAD and drawing requestors, ensuring requests are complete, accurate, and properly documented. · Assign work based on complexity, technician expertise, and operational priorities. · Lead, mentor, and develop CAD Technicians; provide structured coaching and skills development. · Deliver training related to drafting standards, quality expectations, workflow processes, and best practices. · Provide input for technician development plans and capability assessments. · Identify inefficiencies within CAD workflows and implement approved process or tool enhancements. · Continuously evaluate CAD operations for quality, throughput, consistency, and rework reduction opportunities. · Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure alignment between drafting processes and product, engineering, or technical requirements. · Track CAD metrics including request origin, turnaround time, accuracy/rework, workload distribution, and volume trends. · Produce a monthly CAD performance report and recommend improvements based on data analysis. · Provide insights to leadership regarding resourcing needs, bottlenecks, and standardization opportunities. · Produce or revise complex technical drawings only as needed for overflow, escalated requests, or as reference/training examples. · Support BIM model coordination and development on an as-needed basis. · Maintain the integrity and accessibility of CAD templates, families, and file libraries. · Maintain high internal customer-service standards within the CAD function. · Support special projects requiring expert drafting standards or workflow coordination. · Perform additional professional duties requiring judgment, technical expertise, or CAD standards interpretation. · Primary duty is standards governance, quality, and workflow oversight—not drafting. · Authority to approve/reject, enforce, assign, delegate, and implement changes is explicit. · Analytical, evaluative, and policy-level responsibilities are highlighted. · Hands-on drafting is positioned as supplemental, not core. · Requires working knowledge of installation standards, product knowledge, and technical procedures in evaluating moderately complex situations requiring discretion and contextual judgment. · Other duties as assigned.
