About The Position

The Technical Clinical Laboratory Supervisor oversees the activities of the clinical laboratory and ensures its smooth and efficient functioning. This position maintains technical area assigned to meet regulatory requirements, trains staff, prepares technical procedures and independently performs routine and special diagnostic procedures on blood and other body fluids from patients of all age groups served by St. Peter's Health. This position functions as a technical supervisor and will help develop, promote and execute programs, processes and functions designed to enhance the patient customer experience and employee engagement. Requirements

  • Qualify as testing personnel under CLIA Sec. 493.1489(b)(2) required; and have at least 2 years of laboratory training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing.
  • Current ASCP licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) required for Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Molecular Lab Technical Clinical Laboratory Supervisors
  • Bachelor’s degree required in a Life Science or equivalent field.

Responsibilities

  • Selection of the test methodology that is appropriate for the clinical use of the test results
  • Verification of the test procedures performed and establishment of the laboratory's test performance characteristics, including the precision and accuracy of each test and test system
  • Enrollment and participation in an HHS approved proficiency testing program commensurate with the services offered
  • Initiates and establishes a quality control program appropriate for the testing performed and establishing the parameters for acceptable levels of analytic performance and ensuring that these levels are maintained throughout the entire testing process from the initial receipt of the specimen, through sample analysis and reporting of test results
  • Monitors work quality for compliance with laboratory standards. Completes special projects like surveys, statistical reports, studies, and research
  • Resolving technical problems and ensuring that remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications
  • Ensuring that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
  • Identifying training needs and assuring that each individual performing tests receives regular in-service training and education appropriate for the type and complexity of the laboratory services performed
  • Evaluating the competency of all testing personnel and assuring that the staff maintain their competency to perform test procedures and report test results promptly, accurately and proficiently. The procedures for evaluation of the competency of the staff must include
  • Maintaining records for federal, state and appropriate license accreditation. Monitors adherence to safety regulations.
  • May write department reports. May assist in budget planning and cost analysis.
  • May cooperate with counterpart hospitals and other institutions for exchange of samples and information.
