About The Position

This role is central to keeping TIAA and Nuveen's technology infrastructure running around the clock, every day of the year. The person in this position is responsible for quickly detecting and resolving incidents, managing data center isolations, application migrations, and minimizing any disruptions to business operations. A strong foundation in IBM Mainframe systems, CA7, Autosys batch processing, and legacy technologies is essential, as is the ability to make confident, well-informed decisions during high-stakes situations. This individual works independently, leads major infrastructure initiatives, and tackles complex issues spanning networks, storage, and server environments.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Infrastructure Operations experience
  • 5+ years of experience working with ITIL frameworks
  • 5+ years of experience using ServiceNow
  • 2+ years of experience in IBM Mainframe

Responsibilities

  • Major Incident management Serves as the primary responder for technology incidents across TIAA and Nuveen's infrastructure, monitoring systems continuously to detect anomalies and service disruptions before they escalate.
  • Responsible for triaging, diagnosing, and resolving major incidents in a timely manner while maintaining clear and consistent communication with stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of each event.
  • During high-severity situations, exercises sound judgment under pressure and drives incidents to resolution with minimal business impact.
  • Batch Processing and Job Scheduling Management Accountable for overseeing and managing batch processing operations using CA7 and Autosys scheduling platforms.
  • Monitors job streams for failures or delays, performs root cause analysis, and implements corrective actions to ensure batch cycles complete accurately and on time.
  • Proactively identifies scheduling conflicts or inefficiencies and recommends improvements to maintain operational stability.
  • IBM Mainframe Operations Maintains deep operational knowledge of IBM Mainframe environments ensuring the health, availability, and performance of these critical systems.
  • Performs routine monitoring, executes system commands, and supports capacity and availability management activities tied to mainframe infrastructure.
  • Data Center Isolation and Application Migration Support Plays a central role in planning and executing data center isolation activities and application migration efforts, coordinating closely with engineering, application, and infrastructure teams.
  • Ensures that migration events are executed with precision, that rollback procedures are clearly defined, and that any service disruptions are identified and addressed promptly during transition windows.
  • Infrastructure Release Management Partners with the Release Manager to develop, maintain, and communicate comprehensive release plans that align infrastructure changes with business priorities and organizational timelines.
  • Participates in change advisory reviews, conducts risk and impact assessments for planned releases, and ensures that rollback plans are in place prior to execution.
  • Monitors release activities in real time and escalate issues promptly to minimize disruption to production environments.
  • Major Initiative Leadership Beyond day-to-day operations, leads major infrastructure initiatives from planning through execution, bringing together the right stakeholders, managing risks, and ensuring outcomes align with organizational objectives.
  • Serves as a trusted subject matter expert and point of escalation for peers and junior team members navigating complex operational challenges.
  • Documentation and Process Improvement Maintains accurate and up-to-date operational runbooks, incident records, and post-incident reports.
  • Continuously evaluates existing processes and procedures, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and improve the reliability of operational workflows across the technology organization.
  • Around-the-Clock Coverage Given the 24/7/365 nature of this role, provides reliable support, responds to critical alerts outside of standard business hours, and ensures seamless handoffs between shifts to maintain uninterrupted operational coverage.
