Job Summary: Allegion is an innovative company that is continually developing new product offerings in the fields of electronic locks, automatic door systems, access control software and credentials, mechanical locks, doors, door hardware and more. Allegion is looking for a well-rounded, technical writer / technical illustrator to plan, research, write, and create technical literature designed to instruct our users on how to operate and install various products. This role includes development of text and graphics for our installation sheets, service manuals, templates and digital interactive instructions. You should possess a technical writing / technical illustration and graphics related background. Familiarity with proper documentation layout principles, and extensive experience creating vector based graphic content are important for this job. Creativity and art skills are a definite plus. Additionally, experience working with 3d models in the creation of line drawings and/or in the use of photo-realistic images would be a major plus.

Requirements

BA in Technical Writing, English, Graphic Arts, 3D art, or related degree.
Minimum 1 year of related experience.
Experience creating technical graphics, and/or writing technical documentation for hardware or software products.
Proven experience using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe InDesign or their equivalents.
Understanding of mechanical concepts.
Strong, proven writing and communication skills.
Ability to assimilate technical concepts quickly and present technical information clearly and concisely for technical and non-technical audiences.
Team player with solid people skills.
The ability to create polished documents without the aid of an editor.
The ability to meet deadlines while making progress on other priority items.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of ISO draw, Maya, Blender or other 3d software is a plus.

Responsibilities

Create all graphic content of service manuals, templates, and installation sheets.
Write, review, and edit content for clarity and ease of use including: service manuals, installation sheets, interactive instructions, and templates.
Gather and research information and create digital and printed materials.
Support New Product Development, sustaining engineering, and Value Engineering’s technical informational needs.
Work directly with project managers, marketing representatives and engineers to understand the products, collect feedback, and update documentation accordingly.
Ensure technical information is accurate, complete, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, coverage, format, and style.
Obtain a full understanding of the subject matter including target audience by using the products and interacting with product teams.
Work as part of a team to ensure that informational content meets schedule objectives.
Ensure usability of informational content by testing document validity against products.
Manage small tech writing projects throughout the entire process. This includes attendance of meetings, managing phase 1-5 checklists, as well as managing deadlines, and releasing documents through an approval process.
Build interactive instructional information for projects using our interactive html program as required, including the creation of photos, graphics, animations, and video clips.
Conduct usability testing with real world installations of products.
Proactively work with Technical Support to identify Customer issues, and find satisfactory solutions.
