And under this roof, we protect what matters most. Job Summary A Technical Services Specialist helps to track and document codes and regulatory issues that will impact the business. The position assists in maintaining databases of compliance, researching, identifying, and communicating opportunities and threats across our product line. The position will work with the Principal Codes and Regulatory Compliance Lead to communicate across several departments to assist with compliance and working proactively to assure the best outcome of regulatory action. Serves as a resource to R&D, testing, sales, and sustainability to work collaboratively and efficiently for product compliance. Works collaboratively with a Senior Technical Services Specialist to become an expert in all aspects of technical support for GAF's products and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree Engineering, Applied or Physical Science, or related degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience, or Master’s degree Engineering, Applied or Physical Science or related degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant work experience, or H.S. Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) 20+ years related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Project and Data Management
  • Works with testing to maintain internal databases for tracking and communicating GAF product and system certification submittals and approvals, regulatory agency test data, manufacturing requirements and other related data.
  • Works with sustainability to track EPDs and PCR development and identifies opportunities and threats to our product line.
  • Provides training for internal customers on the use of department internal website resources and tailors training programs to the needs and interests of the audience.
  • Maintains VOC and chemical tracking databases.
  • Solicits feedback from internal customers regarding improvements to the department internal databases. Vets suggestions and implements changes when appropriate. Drives continuous improvement.
  • Solves problems related to internal website or Database management.
  • Product Compliance
  • Utilizes the database information to ensure compliance with external agency regulatory manufacturing requirements in order to avoid disruption in product availability.
  • Assists in tracking key building code proposals and communicating out risks and opportunities for product compliance (ICC, DADE, FM, ASTM).
  • Assists sustainability with monitoring requirements for Extended Producer Responsibilities (EPR). Communicates key deadlines and reporting requirements across different states.
  • Works with testing to coordinate timely code approval submittals to various agencies. Responsible for meeting external agency deadlines and avoiding any lapse in regulatory approval coverage which would jeopardize sales opportunities.
  • Technical and Research
  • Works with Senior Technical Services Specialist to provide technical support and research for ROOF 411, 877-GAF-ROOF, Sales and Marketing.
  • Researches, identifies and communicates regulatory approval requirements.
  • Prepares reader-friendly and intelligible product and system building code compliance documents for GAF products and systems.
  • Ability to effectively research roofing related issues, draw conclusions, and provides follow-up information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
