Job Purpose: The primary responsibility of this role is the coordination and fulfilment of lubricants analytical services for the Industrial lubricants business and broader Applied Sciences teams. This role reports into the Expert Team Leader and covers all analytical activities relating to Industrial lubricants, greases and metal working fluids under the Castrol brand, raw materials and related customer services investigative analysis work.

Requirements

  • Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Chemistry
  • Proven industry experience in analytical chemistry with instrumental analysis including GC-MS, ICP, FT-IR and SEM-EDS are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Analytical experience covering lubricants, metalworking fluids, corrosion preventives and greases is important and would be viewed as an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high level of chemical and physical analysis supporting customer technical service, product development, supply chain and new materials evaluation.
  • Performs detailed complex analysis of samples (typically >50% non-routine) using a variety of analytical equipment/techniques to determine possible chemical changes in BP/Castrol and competitor products or chemical contamination from external sources.
  • Interpret/validate analytical results which lead to recommendations on how to correct or better control BP/Castrol products in service.
  • Validates precision of work internally and externally using standards/round robins etc.
  • Commission new equipment and deliver high standard of analytical support in a safe and compliant manner.
  • Maintain equipment and inventory of accessories and take charge of equipment maintenance and calibration as equipment owner.
  • Completes and reports on investigational analysis within timeframe agreed with customer/requester.
  • Manage incoming samples, in-progress samples and retained samples in a safe and compliant way.
  • Maintain inventory of regular reagents and standards.
  • Work with the marketing and sales team to demonstrate the analytical capabilities of Castrol to customers.
  • Follow relative OMS and HSSE guidelines and policy in the lab.
