About The Position

Black Box is seeking an experienced Technical Trainer to build, develop, and elevate the next generation of electrical and low voltage technicians. This role is responsible for delivering high quality instruction, hands on technical training, and skills assessments to ensure technicians are field ready, safety certified, and aligned with Black Box operational standards. The ideal candidate is a seasoned electrical professional with a passion for teaching, strong communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into practical, engaging learning experiences.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on knowledge of electrical installation, equipment operation, and low voltage systems.
  • Deep understanding of electrical safety practices, OSHA standards, and code compliance.
  • Proficiency using electrical tools, testing equipment, and diagnostic instruments.
  • Proven experience delivering technical training in classroom and Hands on lab environments.
  • Ability to design structured curricula, lesson plans, and measurable learning objectives.
  • Skilled in managing group training sessions while maintaining engagement and discipline.
  • A clear, confident communicator with strong presentation skills.
  • Well, organized with excellent documentation and recordkeeping abilities.
  • Analytical, solution-oriented, and capable of coaching learners with diverse experience levels.
  • Consistently demonstrates a safety-first mindset and professional leadership.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an Electrical Instructor, Technical Trainer, Journeyman Electrician, or equivalent role.
  • Certifications such as OSHA10/OSHA30, electrical or low voltage certifications, or instructional credentials.
  • Prior experience training technicians in data centers, industrial environments, construction sites, or skilled trades.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct technical interviews and skills assessments for electrical and infrastructure technician candidates.
  • Deliver classroom, virtual, and hands-on instruction covering electrical systems, tools, and low voltage troubleshooting.
  • Teach and reinforce electrical safety practices, OSHA requirements, and applicable local and national electrical codes.
  • Travel to client sites to conduct onsite training, demonstrations, and competency evaluations as needed.
  • Create, update, and maintain training materials, lesson plans, lab exercises, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure all training content aligns with evolving industry standards, technologies, and Black Box best practices.
  • Design written exams, hands-on assessments, and performance evaluations to measure learner proficiency and readiness.
  • Set up, monitor, and maintain training tools, equipment, and lab environments to ensure safety and operational readiness.
  • Maintain accurate training records, attendance logs, certifications, and evaluation documentation.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements across all training environments.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and technical guidance to trainees throughout their learning journey.
  • Identify skill gaps and tailor instruction to individual and group learning needs.
  • Foster a positive, safety-first learning environment that emphasizes craftsmanship, accountability, and continuous improvement.
