About The Position

While this position requires an on site presence at Pt. Hueneme, CA. This role will require a strong skill-set and will be focused on the Technical Manual Support Services for the Aegis Weapon System (AWS). Strong experience in Framemaker 19 is required, as is extensive experience with DOD documentation and an Active Secret Clearance. The Technical Editor will be responsible for accurately editing both format and structure for Technical Manuals for the Department of Navy. You will produce structured electronic manuals in SGML, XML and S1000D in compliance per Navy approved DTDs. The candidate will be trained on S100D and Microsoft Quicksilver. In this position you will be part of a team that is key in providing detailed and precise Technical Manuals for the Navy (Ships, Subs, Military Watercraft, and Unmanned Systems)

Requirements

  • S1000D Specification: Deep knowledge of the S1000D specification, including demonstrated experience in developing and implementing project-specific Business Rules.
  • IETM Publication: End-to-end experience with creating, validating, and deploying Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs).
  • Data Conversion & Migration: Proven ability to convert legacy documentation from unstructured formats into compliant S1000D data modules.
  • Quality & Revision Control: Strong experience in using validation tools and managing the revision process for technical data within a CSDB environment.
  • 2 years' experience technical writing and editing Technical Documentation
  • Experience with MS Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's Degree preferred
  • 3 years' experience technical writing and editing Technical Manuals
  • Experience authoring/editing in Adobe FrameMaker 19
  • Understanding of SGML/XML concepts
  • Experience creating/editing graphics with Corel DRAW Graphics Suite
  • Active Secret Clearance

Responsibilities

  • Execution of tasks supporting Technical Data Elements, development, distribution, and sustainment of required Technical Documentation, Manuals, Publications and Notices
  • Development and update of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs)
  • Support in execution of tasks in the areas of Sustainment Analysis and Sustainment Planning
  • Identification and elevation of technical and schedule risks
  • Acting as a liaison with all engineering disciplines, such as Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Test, Materials and Processes, and Structural design functions
  • Developing operator-level and maintainer-level documentation for complex Navy systems (ships, subs, military watercraft, and unmanned systems)
  • Collaborating with functional management, program management and execution team to ensure technical success while balancing goals, approaches, and risks
