About The Position

The Publications team is looking for a detail oriented Repair Parts and Special Tools Lists (RPSTL) author to develop and sustain high quality technical content for RPSTL. The role involves interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and provisioning databases to produce accurate documentation. The ideal candidate possesses strong technical aptitude, experience with structured authoring (XML), and excellent written and verbal communication skills. H-60 Black Hawk background desired, but not required. This position operates in a fast paced environment with multiple priorities and strict deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (or 5+ Years of authoring Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPB) or Repair Parts and Special Tools Lists (RPSTL)) from an accredited institution in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Logistics & Supply Chain Management, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum 1 to 5 years of professional experience in technical authoring, documentation, or a comparable military/academic setting.
  • Familiarity with RPSTL authoring, engineering drawings/blueprints, and provisioning databases.
  • Basic understanding of provisioning processes and database structures.
  • Experience with structured authoring tools and XML tagging in MIL-STD-40051.
  • Familiarity with S1000D.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of cross functional (including virtual) teams.
  • Meticulous in reviewing technical data and ensuring accuracy.
  • Quick learner with the ability to understand complex engineering concepts.
  • Effectively manages multiple priorities and tight deadlines.
  • Builds constructive relationships with subject matter experts and stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with structured authoring tools and XML tagging in the S1000D Standard.
  • Additional years of experience in aerospace, defense, or high tech manufacturing environments.
  • Certification in technical writing or structured authoring (e.g., Arbortext).
  • Proficiency working in shared technical data bases and version control tools (e.g., Contenta).
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as ASME, ISO, or MIL SPEC documentation requirements.
