About The Position

Purpose: A Robotics Technologist evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering assembly techniques, procedures, and standards in the creation of robotic system hardware. Technologists are expected to be strong in various engineering skills involving a mix of electrical and mechanical engineering concepts; and be capable of applying them on projects in terrestrial and space environments. Technologists should work well on multidisciplinary teams consisting of university students, professors of practice, and other full-time engineering professionals.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in effectively communicating and working cooperatively with others.
  • Previous experience working on robotic systems and integration.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided drafting techniques, and design, including SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of electronics, PCB design and Altium design software.
  • Ability to use technical drawings and populate PCBs and cable harnesses.
  • General knowledge of engineering testing.
  • Practical expertise in electro-mechanical assembly.
  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit flexibility and proactivity in task completion, ensuring adaptability to evolving project demands.
  • Proficiency in electrical wiring, connector crimping, surface-mount soldering, and wire harnessing, showcasing a thorough understanding of electrical systems and connections.
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (tapping, riveting, drilling).
  • Proficiency in general machining and assembly techniques including turning, milling, drilling, and using various fasteners

Responsibilities

  • Support testing and evaluation activities for prototypes, flight hardware, and ground support equipment through project lifecycles
  • Design and perform engineering experiments, tests, and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control, and protocol compliance
  • Design, develop, and integrate robotic hardware, software, and controls for complex robotic systems
  • The development of technical drawings and schematics in CAD software
  • Strong collaboration skills in order to facilitate rapid prototyping, design, manufacturing, and assembly
  • Other technical duties as assigned
