About The Position

The Technologist (Research) is a highly hands-on role focused on data collection, prototype building, and acoustic measurements that enable the Experience Intelligence research pipeline. You will build rigs, run experiments, create demos, and produce clean, well-instrumented datasets that feed DSP/ML development and perceptual validation. In Year 1, success is measured by how much you accelerate productization: faster prototypes, faster measurement cycles, and higher quality data that shortens the loop from idea to product-ready evidence.

Requirements

  • Education: BS in EE/ME/Acoustics/Physics/Computer Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience: 3+ years in an R&D lab, acoustic measurement environment, prototype engineering, or engineering technologist role.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience with measurement equipment, calibration discipline, and data handling. Comfortable with basic audio/DSP concepts.
  • Programming: Ability to write and maintain scripts in Python (or similar) for automation and data processing.
  • Communication: Strong documentation habits and ability to communicate results/issues clearly to engineers and researchers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with audio measurement systems (Audio Precision, SoundCheck, HATS rigs, microphone calibration workflows).
  • Familiarity with embedded device workflows (flashing, logging, ADB, basic Linux/RTOS concepts).
  • Experience supporting ML dataset creation (labeling workflows, privacy/consent discipline).
  • Comfort supporting connectivity-related experiments (Bluetooth/Wi‑Fi routing, latency measurements).

Responsibilities

  • Prototype Building & Demos: Assemble and maintain prototype systems (devices, sensors, audio routing, embedded platforms) and deliver reliable demos for stakeholders.
  • Data Collection: Execute structured data capture for ML and evaluation: consistent protocols, metadata discipline, storage/versioning, and QA checks.
  • Acoustic Measurements: Run repeatable acoustic measurement workflows (calibration, measurement templates, environment control) and maintain measurement integrity across campaigns.
  • Automation & Tools: Write scripts/tools (Python preferred) to automate measurement runs, post-processing, reporting, and dataset packaging.
  • Lab Operations & Readiness: Maintain lab equipment readiness, calibration records, test fixtures, and documentation so the team can reproduce results quickly.
  • Cross-Functional Support: Partner with DSP, ML, perceptual, connectivity, and test engineers to ensure experiments are instrumented correctly and data is usable.
  • AI Tools: Use AI-assisted tools to speed up scripting, troubleshooting, and documentation while keeping traceability and correctness.

Benefits

  • Flexible work environment, allowing for full-time remote work globally for positions that can be performed outside a HARMAN or customer location
  • Access to employee discounts on world-class products (JBL, HARMAN Kardon, AKG, and more)
  • Extensive training opportunities through our own HARMAN University
  • Competitive wellness benefits
  • Tuition reimbursement
  • “Be Brilliant” employee recognition and rewards program
  • An inclusive and diverse work environment that fosters and encourages professional and personal development
