About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations, the Unit Director oversees the daily operations of the designated Boys & Girls Club site (during school-year and/or summer programs). This role centers on creating emotionally and physically safe environments that are welcoming, predictable, and empowering for all youth. Key responsibilities include program and service delivery, staff supervision and development, facilities and budget management, community and family engagement, and trauma-informed leadership that nurtures growth, trust, and belonging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or a combination of education and experience in youth development.
  • Able to instruct, coach, and direct varied activities.
  • Able to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
  • Exercise independent judgment and initiative within general policy guidelines.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Group leadership skills, including an understanding of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrated organizational, staff and project management abilities.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications.
  • Valid Drivers License.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all programs are welcoming, respectful, and responsive to the diverse identities, experiences, and needs of youth and their families.
  • Use strength-based approaches to support youth development and affirm each member’s voice, culture, and lived experience.
  • Create and maintain an emotionally and physically safe Club environment that supports positive youth development and healing-centered engagement.
  • Offer activities and opportunities that promote purpose, choice, autonomy, and individual empowerment.
  • Encourage member-led activities and leadership opportunities that build confidence, belonging, and identity.
  • Ensure staff consistently offer predictable structure and constructive feedback to guide skill development and behavior in respectful, developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Ensure the Club meets programmatic, relational, and revenue goals with an emphasis on youth-centered outcomes and inclusive practices.
  • Uphold and implement all BGCBC policies with a trauma-informed mindset—balancing structure with flexibility, empathy, and relationship repair where needed.
  • Develop and implement programs that reflect the diverse needs, strengths, and interests of youth and their communities.
  • Prioritize culturally responsive, gender-affirming, and developmentally appropriate programming.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, participation, and outcome records with sensitivity to confidentiality and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Partner with families, community organizations, and volunteers to foster a network of trust and collaborative care for youth.
  • Build and maintain reciprocal relationships with families, schools, and community partners that prioritize connection, consistency, and shared goals.
  • Represent the Club with professionalism, empathy, and cultural humility.
  • Understands and follows policies and procedures to include but not limited to conduct of member policies, supervision of members policies, employee to member policies, member safety polices, child abuse and neglect policies, member health policies, transportation and field trips policies, the club safety/contingency plan, and the procedures for reporting incidents/accidents during program hours.
  • Assures program safety and safety of staff, volunteers, visitors, members and daily operations.
  • Communicates emergency procedures to all using facility.
  • Enforce safety policies and procedures while modeling trauma-informed responses to behavior, conflict, and crisis situations.
  • Ensure all program areas are emotionally safe, well-maintained, and accessible.
  • Promote a culture of positive mentorship, emotional regulation, and restorative practice among staff and youth.
  • Organizes, directs and supervises the daily operations of a Club, including staffing program scheduling and work flow.
  • Leads, creates, and evaluates Program development and implementation.
  • Manages the Club staff and volunteers according to the practices and policies developed by BGCBC.
  • Train, supervise and evaluate operations staff within the Club.
  • Conduct regular meeting with staff to for timely communications.
  • Must participate in required trainings by the Club, County, State and/or funder.
  • Create and understand annual budget.
  • Monitors monthly budget reports for Club, take action upon discover of a revenue or expense variance.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of Club operations and prepares timely reports.
  • Increase visibility of Club programs via posting of daily schedule, announcements of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases.
  • Make purchases as needed for program activities
  • May oversee special programs and/or events (i.e. Keystone, Youth of the Year and Awards Programs), and/or participate in the implementation of other unit activities as necessary.
  • Will be required to drive Club van periodically.
  • May consult with parents concerning member and Club issues.
  • Will be responsible for light housekeeping and cleaning.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
