About The Position

This temporary position performs specialized office and administrative support work related to employee benefits administration for Calvert County Government. The work includes assisting with benefits processing, maintaining records and databases, coordinating meetings, responding to employee inquiries, and providing administrative support to the Benefits Division. The incumbent may assist with retirement plan administrative functions and support activities related to the Boards of Trustees, benefits enrollment, and Family and Medical Leave (FMLA) administration. Work is performed under the supervision of the Benefits Manager. This is a temporary position working Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., intended to provide operational support within the Benefits Division. This position does not confer permanent employment status or eligibility for County benefits. The assignment is anticipated to last approximately six (6) months; however, the duration is not guaranteed and may end earlier or be extended based on operational needs.

Requirements

  • Subject to background investigation.
  • Work requires extended periods of sitting and operation of computer and keyboard equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clerical support related to employee and retiree benefits programs.
  • Communicates with County staff, insurance carriers, vendors, and external agencies to obtain or relay information.
  • Maintains files, records, and databases related to benefits administration; verifies accuracy of information and documentation.
  • Assists with employee benefit enrollment processing and verification of payroll deductions.
  • Responds to routine employee inquiries regarding health, retirement, and other benefit programs.
  • Assists with new hire orientation by providing general benefits information.
  • Supports the Open Enrollment process, including coordination with vendors and tracking enrollment materials.
  • Assists with administration and tracking of Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) requests and related documentation.
  • Prepares materials, agendas, and meeting packets for retirement plan Boards of Trustees as assigned.
  • Assists with meeting coordination and preparation of draft notes or minutes.
  • Updates and maintains electronic records and produces reports as requested.
  • Assists with processing retirement plan transactions, loan requests, disability submissions, invoices, and related documentation.
  • Performs general office and administrative duties in support of Benefits Division operations.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
