About The Position

Works under the direct supervision of the Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor. Installs, maintains, and repairs traffic signs including layout, assembly, and disassembly, pole (post) setting, straightening and graffiti removal. Assists in pavement marking installations, executing city-wide curb painting program, deploying traffic control for city-wide special events. Assists in the long line striping layout program. Assists in maintaining and operating thermoplastic machine. Assist signs and marking crew in scheduled sign maintenance or pavement marking work as directed by Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor. Assists in operating and deploying variable message boards. Using excellent customer service skills, establishes and maintains effective working relationships with other employees, officials, and all members of the general public. Operates a motor vehicle to assist in carrying out the business of the department and the City. Is generally alert to conditions and events occurring on city streets and rights-of-way and can respond accordingly. While performing job duties, takes proper safety precautions, anticipates unsafe circumstances and acts accordingly to prevent accidents. Responsible for the safety of self, others, materials and equipment. Attendance at work is an essential function of this position. NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Perform some or all the duties of the Traffic Signs & Markings Supervisor as directed. Perform some or all the duties of the Traffic Signs & Markings Technicians, as required. Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license with acceptable driving record for past three years.
  • This position is subject to the City of Farmington's Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace Policy which includes: pre-employment testing, post-accident testing, random testing, reasonable suspicion testing, return to duty testing, and follow-up testing.
  • Extensive background checks required.
  • This position requires a baseline audiometric examination.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ year(s) experience as a traffic/transportation crew member, traffic operations, or other related experience
  • Working knowledge of the Manual On Uniform Traffic Control Devices
  • IMSA certified in Signs and Markings Level 1
  • ATSSA certified in Traffic Control Technician
  • ATSSA certified in Pavement Marking Technician
  • Past experience working in work zones with public roadways utilizing proper traffic control
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Ability to tolerate weather extremes for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide leadership and directions and follow instruction.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment listed.
