About The Position

Responsible for assisting the Technical Production Supervisor with the organization, supervision and stage managing of theatre events. Maintains and operates all theatre equipment, provides for the security and safety of the people in the facility, and troubleshoots and performs minor repairs of standard theatrical lighting and sound equipment. Varies PLEASE NOTE: This is an open continuous applicant pool. Submitting an application does not guarantee an interview or employment. Positions will be filled by the department on an as needed basis. Work schedule is as needed due to the theatre schedule.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. with additional training related to the position.
  • Minimum of one year related experience
  • Skill in: Theatre lighting/audio technician.
  • Basic electronics and soldering.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Multitasking capabilities.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to: Troubleshoot and minor repair of theatre lighting/audio.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing 20 to 49 pounds.
  • Lift, carry, push, pull, install or remove objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Reach and grasp objects.
  • Stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Use of video display terminal.
  • Use of manual dexterity and fine motor skill.
  • Communicate information orally and in writing.
  • Receive and understand information through oral and written communication.
  • Proofread and check documents for accuracy.
  • Work with equipment or perform procedures where carelessness may result in injury.
  • Experience exposure to uncomfortable work environment due to extreme temperature, noise level and other conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze technical problems with multimedia systems and equipment, and perform minor repairs.
  • Replace defective or obsolete theatrical equipment and/or fixtures.
  • Set up and operate sound equipment such as public address systems and may install background music system as required.
  • Operate stage lighting equipment for play production in auditorium; rig lighting equipment by use of ladder as required.
  • Coordinate the activities of one or more staff.
  • Assist in scheduling and administrative requirements. This may include student workers, part-time, full-time, temporary, and/or volunteers.
  • Plan, direct, and control the work of people who do not report directly to you, but who provide support to the goals and objectives of your organization.
  • Maintain and perform in a safe workplace.
  • Participate in various meetings and committees.
  • Provide custodial duties such as but not limited to cleaning, dusting and mopping floors of theatre stage area.
  • Set-up flats, props, sound equipment and related stage items in accordance with the stage plot.
  • Unload, unpack, pack and load sound, lighting and stage equipment.
  • Moving sets and equipment during performances.
  • May open and close curtain on queue.
  • Assist with set-up and operation of lighting, sound and related stage equipment.
